Days Gone PS5 Remaster Comes With a Big Catch – GameRant

The upcoming Days Gone Remastered’s $10 upgrade path is not available to those that “own” the game through PlayStation Plus. Days Gone Remastered was finally announced at the latest PlayStation State of Play after months of rumors that the project was in development at Bend Studio. The Days Gone Remastered trailer confirmed that the 2019 open world zombie game would be making its way to the PS5 on April 25, with a couple of different purchasing options. Those that already own Days Gone on PS4 will have the option to upgrade to the remastered version for $9.99. Additionally, Days Gone PC players can pay $9.99 to get the new content coming to Days Gone Remastered added to the version of their game. Otherwise, Days Gone Remastered will be available as a standalone product for $49.99. Unfortunately, it’s been confirmed that the $10 upgrade path is not available to those that claimed Days Gone through PS Plus.Days Gone Remastered brings back the classic zombie-slaying action of the original in this State of Play trailer from February 2025.Days Gone has never been a monthly free PS Plus game, but it was featured as part of the PS Plus Collection. For the uninitiated, the PS Plus Collection was a line-up of PS4 games that users could claim for their digital libraries. As long as one claimed the freebies while they were available and has an active PS Plus subscription, they have access to them. Despite this, anyone that has access to Days Gone through PS Plus can’t upgrade their version of the game for $9.99. If they want to play the remaster, they will have to fork over $49.99, which is certainly not ideal. This is undoubtedly disappointing news for anyone hoping to check out Days Gone Remastered’s new game modes without breaking the bank. It’s likely that there will be some people that already played Days Gone on PS4 through their PS Plus subscription and would be interested in spending $9.99 for the new modes, but may not be willing to pay $49.99. Those that don’t want to spend $50 should note that it’s highly likely that Days Gone Remastered will one day make its way to the PS Plus Extra catalog, though plans to that effect have not been announced at the time of this writing. With Days Gone 2 rejected by Sony, Days Gone Remastered may be the last new release that the franchise ever sees. Then again, it’s possible Days Gone Remastered will fuel increased interest in the game, and with Bend Studio’s live-service IP canceled, perhaps it may very well be given the green light to move forward with a follow-up. That’s just speculation at this time, though. It’s entirely possible Bend Studio’s next game will be something completely unexpected, so fans should keep that in mind.Success! We want to hear from you! Share your opinions in the thread below and remember to keep it respectful.Your comment has not been savedI’m still confused. I have the disc, for PS4. So, when this remaster comes out can I upgrade for £10?You should be able to! Which makes me think it would be smart to try and buy a used copy for less and then get the upgrade for $10 instead of $50. I’ll probably just fork over the $50.Same here. I’m guessing we’re just left to buy it at full price if we want it.This site makes nothing clear, but Sony made it extremely clear, both in print and with an infographic, that it doesn’t matter if you bought it physically or digitally, you can upgrade for $10 (or equivalent in regions around the world). The issue here is PS+ doesn’t allow you to actually “own” the games they give you every month. The licenses temporarily expire if you stop subbing, so you can’t simply upgrade without a purchased version of the title.as you own the game, you can pay the £/$10 for the upgradeYou’ll be able to get it at the $10 as long as you have it on disc or digital. They’ve always done that with upgrade deals. I’ve upgraded games both disc and digital and never had a problem with either.I might be willing to pay the 50 bones for a remastered version. Loved the game and I have hoped for a Days Gone 2. Maybe if enough of us splurge on this purchase it will create a renewed interest in a true sequel.I wish they’d just say it, but I think this is a test to see if there’s interest in thst sequel we never gotYou mentioned in the other thread about buying a disc then the $10 upgrade. That’s exactly what I did for the Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster, and even though I paid the guy a little extra to drop off the game for me, I still came out way ahead. Really losing patience with Sony. This is what? the third or fourth game that is not even 10 years old that’s getting a remaster? A game keep in mind that still works just fine looks just fine that is last year. Keep in mind that the games that they’re remastering aren’t even that good to begin with. I found last of Us and horizon zero Dawn boring. This is just corporate greed. They could remaster games that people actually want to play instead they’re just chilling out games that weren’t that great to begin withAt least Days Gone was a good game. I had a blast playing it myself. I think it’s absurd they canned the sequel. Then don’t buy it. Or don’t front the $10 to upgrade. They aren’t doing these for you. They’re doing them for fans of the specific games and people who have the PS5 and haven’t played them yet. Or simply people who want to experience them again without complaining about it. If they were doing them for any other reason, most of these games wouldn’t be $50 and they’d universally enforce us having to buy them all for whatever price they’d mark them out, without the lower upgrade price. It’s mind-blowing that people still don’t understand that doing these for any reason is cheaper than completely rebuilding even older games from the ground up. Since it’s become most gamers goal to rip down absolutely anything they do, you’d think people would understand why Sony wouldn’t be leaping to spend millions to completely redo Syphon Filter.Or that doing this could just be to drum up interest in the sequel they never made. Also, never mind they’re adding a bunch of new modes to the game for this release, to add value for returning players.Yeah, I’m there as well. Like, I actually did enjoy TLOU as well as Horizon ZD…but they didn’t need remasters/remakes. TLOU Pt 1 still looked gorgeous with the PS4 remaster, and HZD didn’t really look different despite the supposed updated mo-cap.This game is barely almost 6 years old, and looks just like the current og version on PS4. These studios need to slow down and go back to older games if they’re going to go the remake/remaster route. A game should be a decade old minimum before even being considered for it.I agree that these more recent games don’t need remastered versions, however claiming that they “aren’t good” is a small-brain way to announce that you just want to complain.I’ve already pre-ordered the full $49.99 digital version and will try and put in my ps4 disc and pay the additional $10.00 to upgrade that as well. I already own it on steam but will pay for the upgrade there. I’m doing my part to try and get DAYS GONE 2 made. If they do I really hope they bring back John and Jeff to complete the story properly!Yes if you have the disc it is only $10 to upgrade! Why is this a surprise to anyone when it’s fairly certain that they’ve never allowed this? They aren’t going to let you pay $10 for a rebuilt version if a game you never owned. And yes: You.Never.Owed.It. no game given through PS+ has ever given you a full ownership license. That’s why they stop working when you unsub. And they’ve never claimed you owned it. Xbox’s Games with Gold did. The Epic Games Store does weekly. PlayStation Plus hasn’t.More than likely I will. I hope they add a little more to the story because of the cliffhanger They aren’t. There really isn’t a cliffhanger, they intended on making a sequel and never did. I’m going into this assuming this move is actually to see if there’s interest in that sequel. The added value/content is done through a few new challenge modes and trophies for those modesWell, if Sony is gauging interest in this game to potentially greenlighting an official sequel, then I hope the remaster is successful enough to accomplish this task. Why take chances on an unknown IP when you can work on something that has a big fan base wanting a sequel. Looking forward to this, loved playing through it originally but I blasted through because at the time I was at the peak of my Destiny addiction. Now that that’s behind me I think it’s time to give it another more steadily paced spin. I would have preferred a Order 1886 Remaster as that was a day 1 release on PS4. I think a decade is a nice amount of time to have passed between remasters and I’d love to see that already gorgeous game pumped full of PS5 upgrades. Sucks Facebook bought that developer only to shutter the whole company SMH… I was hoping someday for a sequel, that world was too fascinating to end up liquidated Meta assets. They can keep it! I’ll play the version I own. I’ve been a PS gamer for over 20 years and have bought almost every product they released with the exception of the portal. Now they expect me to fork over another $50 for a game I already own, that they somehow actually made look worse than the original? I’m good. ✌I have the disc and not able to pre-order for $10…. Which doesn’t make sense since I “own” the gameI really believe it’s a test to see if there’s enough interest in it to approve a sequel, and remember a movie is supposedly in the making soooooooI would have happily paid $10 for the upgrade, but expecting us to pay $50 when we already own the PS4 version (at least according to Sony) is wild…You don’t own it though. The PS+ license is not something you’ve bought, so you don’t own it when it’ll disappear (even temporarily) when you unsub. You don’t own anything unless you paid for it outright Sony’s been doing this for too long for people to be this dense about the practice. It’s not new.Boomingechoes But I do own the game though, according to Sony. If I go to the game’s store page, I’m unable to buy it for that very reason. As for the idea that this is standard practice, those who claimed the free copy of Horizon Zero Dawn were still eligible for the $10 upgrade when that was remastered, so I think it’s fair to question why they’ve opted for a different approach with Days Gone.I own the original and wouldn’t mind spending the 10 dollars for the remaster. But, if the game was so bad that Sony didn’t want to do a part two to this great game, why bother doing a remaster of the original? They should have done a Days Gone sequel. The original did not have a final ending.Days Gone was a PS+ monthly free game, proving once again that these journalists have no idea what they’re talking about.Who wanted this? Nobody is excited or plans on buying this. Sony needs to release unique IPs or be doomed as the “remaster general” and have their IPs fade into obscurity.I’m interested in and buying it. I much prefer they make the sequel but I’ll take it. Days gone still has a good amount of fan base including myself. You mean, you don’t want this. Obviously you can’t read others comments, but there are literally thousands of fans of this game that do want it. If you want Sony to fade into obscurity, you sound more like an XBOX fan. There are millions of video gamers in the world, you are not special. What a scam, they won’t make a sequel but will charge premium for a game that doesn’t need a remaster. To be honest, they probably made it worse. A premium would be $70. But that violin you’re playing sounds really nicePremium? $10? $49.99?Neither of those prices is “premium.” They’re actually incredibly low seeing as how most games are $69.99 now.
