Maika Monroe stars as FBI agent Lee Harker in the sleeper horror hit Longlegs.We’re in a new era of off-kilter slow-burn horror movies and one of the best of 2024 has come to streaming. I’m talking, of course, about Longlegs. The indie serial killer drama — which was directed by Osgood Perkins and stars Maika Monroe, Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt and Nicolas Cage — took the box office by storm by raking in over $126 million globally. Considering the film’s budget was under $10 million, that’s a noteworthy accomplishment. And now you can revel in the weirdness at home. The gist of Longlegs goes as follows: FBI agent Lee Harker (Monroe) is tasked with investigating a serial killer case that has spanned multiple decades. She takes on more than she initially expected and soon discovers a personal connection to the killer (played deliciously maniacal by an unrecognizable Cage) that flips the whole story on its head. Sharing more about the plot would probably spoil things, so I’ll leave it at this: Longlegs isn’t the movie you think it is, making it even more worth a watch.
