A Japanese Hi-Fi Company Just Released a Gorgeous Amplifier for Compact Loudspeaker Systems – Gear Patrol

It’s best known for its high-end audio equipment, including reel-to-reel machines, cassette tape decks and amplifiers. Now, the company has introduced a gorgeous and compact stereo power amplifier to its Reference 500 series. It’s designed for audiophiles who want to build a traditional bookshelf or desktop speaker hi-fi system.The Teac AP-507 is essentially a new and improved version of the AP-505, the brand’s 2019-released stereo power amplifier. The new model has been updated with new amp technologies and more power. It can deliver 170 watts per channel (at 4 ohms), compared to the AP-505’s 130 watts per channel (at 4 ohms), when used in a traditional stereo setup. The amplifier is versatile. It can be used in two-channel stereo, bi-amp or bridged configurations; when used in BTL (Bridge-Tied Load) mode, where two channels drive a single loudspeaker, it can deliver up to 350 watts (at 8 ohms).Teac claims that it can be used to enhance AV surround sound systems, as well. The secret behind the increased power (and performance) is Teac’s own custom-tuned new generation “NCOREx” power amplifier module, which the brand says has been meticulously tuned to achieve exceptional audio performance.The stereo power amplifier also features a proprietary dual-mono buffer amplifier and fully balanced circuitry, which known to deliver ultra-linear performance with low distortion and high efficiency.According to the brand, the AP-507 is designed to play music with “remarkable fidelity, capturing every nuance and detail of the original recording.”Like its predecessor, the Teac AP-507 has a modular design and similar compact chassis — made out of aluminum and steel — as the rest of the brand’s Reference 500 series. The standout feature of the Teac AP-507 is its gorgeous dual-point UV power meters that glow orange, which its predecessor had as well.As seen in most photos, the Teac AP-507 meant to be stacked and used with other components in the series. In a traditional audio setup, you’ll want to pair it with one of Teac’s Reference 500 preamps, such as HA-507 (shown), which was released in 2024, for switching inputs. The Teac AP-507’s advanced technology and increased power cost more. It’s priced at $2,199, a good deal more than its predecessor, the Teac AP-505 ($1,499), which the brand will likely phase out.The Teac AP-507 comes in two finishes: silver or black. It will be available this spring.
