PlayStation State of Play February 2025 – Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2? – Eurogamer

Neither, but Housemarque’s Returnal follow-up Saros revealed. What is the state of play? Well, tonight Sony is going to tell us in a PlayStation State of Play broadcast, which begins at a not horrendous time of 10pm UK (5pm ET / 11pm CET). As always, we’ll be running a blow-by-blow report here in this article, where you can also watch the stream and chat to us.What are we likely to see tonight? The show will be 40-minutes long apparently (also not horrendous) and the chances of a Ghost of Yotei showing, and a Death Stranding 2 showing, seem high. We haven’t seen either for a while and both are expected to release this year. We’re also hoping we might get a look at Bungie’s long-in-development Marathon, which is a fitting name, and the much talked about multiplayer component to Horizon. Could we also be in for a glimpse of Insomniac’s Wolverine? And what is remake specialist Bluepoint up to? What of the third-party games, too?Much to wonder about. See you later?
Our live coverage of this event has finished. Huh, what, who!Oh good evening!
– Robert Purchese
Here we are again, awaiting the unexpected, hoping to be thrilled. Hoping, perhaps beyond hope, that Sony announces Bloodborne 2. Will that game ever materialise or will it join such hallowed company as Hollow Knight: Silksong and Half-Life 3?
– Robert Purchese
A remastered God of War Collection? I’d play that.
– Robert Purchese
Oh my good god. The world is not ready for Knack remake.
– Robert Purchese
Incidentally, sorry about this auto-scroll problem. I’ll raise the issue and see that it gets looked at.
– Robert Purchese
10 minutes to go. I hope it’s a good show. How’s everybody doing this evening? Have you all got some nice refreshments or snacks? I’ve just had a wee glass of rakia from Buglaria. I’m pretty sure one of my partner’s friends made it. God knows how strong it is; very strong, by the taste of it.
– Robert Purchese
Lively, you might say.
– Robert Purchese
Five minutes! Guesses for what’s up first – big start?
– Robert Purchese
Boo for school nights!
– Robert Purchese
Hah – yes! Everyone seems to make their own. People just bring repurposed bottles of the stuff over and hand it to you.
– Robert Purchese
Nice – celebratory! I like it.
– Robert Purchese
The show begins
Okay buckle up – here we go. The show is about to begin.
– Robert Purchese
And we open with…
Monster Hunter Wilds, it looks like – a montage or a proper gameplay segment?
– Robert Purchese
Not far off now of course. And it’s looking good. Can it appeal wider than to a Monster Hunter audience though?
– Robert Purchese
We’re getting a bit of information on a post-launch update coming in the spring, bringing a dragon called Mizutsune, and in the summer there’ll be another free update.
– Robert Purchese
That’s it for Monster Hunter. A functional start to the show.
Now: SEGA. From the creators of Streets of Rage 4 – Dotemu. This is Shinobi.
– Robert Purchese
New 2D Shinobi game by Dotemu revealed
2D, platforming, crispy cartoon art. Dotemu really knows its stuff.
Shinobi: Argt of Vengeance, coming 29th August to PS5 and PS4.
– Robert Purchese
Sonic Racing now, as dazzlingly bright as ever. There’s a giant dinosaur! Tails has a flying car! Now they’re racing around a kraken? This is krackers.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds closed network test coming 21st February.
– Robert Purchese
Oh god there’s a new Digimon game
Bandai Namco now and a bright anime cityscape. Oh gods its Digimon. There’s a new Digimon game.
Digimon Story: The Stranger, it’s called. How’s that for an edgy title? It’s coming 2025.
– Robert Purchese
Lost Soul Aside releases 30th May
UltiZero games and Sony now, and a colossal dragon-looking thing and a young feminine hero. This looks very Final Fantasy.
It’s a very handsome game we’re seeing now – a mix of futuristic and fantasay. Wings sprouting from trenchcoats. It’s a full action game by the looks of things.
Lost Soul Aside, it’s called. It’s coming out 30th May.
– Robert Purchese
Oh it could be!
– Robert Purchese
Lost Soul Aside comes out the same day as Elden Ring Nightreign, by the way, which seems like a huge problem for it.
– Robert Purchese
Whoops just toally glossed over the wrestling game there. It’s out pretty soon, so that makes me feel better at least. There’s Randy Pitchford and Borderlands 4 again. It looks pretty good; I like the soundtrack. Come on, Sony, show us the good stuff!
– Robert Purchese
Borderlands 4 releases 23rd September
Gosh, there’s going to be an entire Borderlands 4 State of Play this summer. I don’t think we’ll live report that one.
Borderlands 4 releases 23rd September.
– Robert Purchese
Victoria’s just been away seeing Split Fiction, this new game from Josef Fares’ studio Hazelight. Look out for her impressions soon!
– Robert Purchese
Until Dawn team’s Directive 8020 out 2nd OctoberHere’s the new game from Supermassive – the makers of Until Dawn and The Quarry. It’s a sci-fi game by the look of things – things going wrong on a space station. The story seems to revolve around humans finding a strange biological thing and it slowly taking them over. Directive 8020 it’s called, and it’s coming out 2nd October. Is that like Beverley Hills 90210?
– Robert Purchese
Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic coming 13th June.
– Robert Purchese
We’re seeing a hand-crafted “cosy horror” game now, which looks absolutely terrifying – I don’t know where the cosy horror part comes from. The Midnight Walk it’s called, and it’s coming 8th May.
– Robert Purchese
Oh it does – very much so!
– Robert Purchese
A Roguelike Warriors game from Tecmo Koei now called Warriors Abyss. Did you hear that Tecmo Koei’s CEO of 47 stepped down the other day? 47 years! That’s longer than I’ve worked at Eurogamer. That’s out today by the way.
– Robert Purchese
Capcom shows bloody new Onimusha trailerWe’re getting a new trailer for the Onimusha game, Onimusha: Way of the Sword now, which is coming in 2026. Samurai are certainly en vogue at the moment.
– Robert Purchese
Haha – quite!
– Robert Purchese
MGS 3 remake coming 8th August
Hello hello hello, who is this head-tie wearing grizzled soldier? Why it looks a lot like Solid Snake. This certainly doesn’t look like Death Stranding 2.
This is, of course, the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Coming 28th August, if I’ve read my American dates right.
– Robert Purchese
Hell is Us releases 4th September
What is this curious game we’re seeing? It looks very strange. Ah, Hell is Us, coming 4th September – a strange action adventure.
– Robert Purchese
This looks like Lies of P now.
– Robert Purchese
Lies of P DLC Overture arrives this summer
There’s a lot of goodwill behind Lies of P, and this add-on or expansion looks ambitious. Lies of P: Overture it’s called and it’s coming this summer.
– Robert Purchese
PixelJunk now, which I sort of forgot was still aroind. This game is made by Baiyon, whoever that is. It looks like something made in Dreams – a game made of many, many voxels, like an abstract painting, and weird in an abstract way. Dreams of Another, it’s called, coincidentally, and it’s coming in 2025.
– Robert Purchese
Oh here is Baiyon now, talking to camera, telling us about the content of the game. It’s built using something called point of cloud rendering technology – dunno.
– Robert Purchese
Days Gone: Remastered now. We’re hearing that it’s got permadeath and speedrun modes, and it’s enhanced for PS5 Pro and it works on PSVR. It’s got bigger hordes and all sorts, it sounds like. It’s coming 25th April.
– Robert Purchese
– Robert Purchese
Oh interesting: the Lost in Records game, made by the Life is Strange creators, launches into PS Plus. The first episode comes out 18th February. Tom Phillips is very excited about this.
Oh, and Blue Prince will launch day one on PS Plus too. I played this last year and it’s going to be a banger.
– Robert Purchese
We could do with an exciting announcement now, for sure.
– Robert Purchese
Eclipse Glow Games now, and a character doing a terrible English accent. A strange fantasy world and some incredible vistas with titanic enemies in. It’s an action game of sorts that looks much more pedestrian outside of its cutscenes.
Tides of Annihilation it’s called. No release date yet.
– Robert Purchese
A techno first-person shooter now, which seems to be all out action in stylish futuristic hallways. Oh, there’s some wall-running. Metal Eden it’s called, and it’s out 6th May.
– Robert Purchese
IOI Partners now and Build A Rocket Boy, and a cinematic army game with a futuristic bent. Oh, it’s from former Rockstar man Leslie Benzies. This is MindsEye.
Androids chasing humans, EMPs going off. It’s coming out this summer. Oh and there’s Leslie Benzies. He’s a suave looking chap.
– Robert Purchese
We’re going to see some gameplay no. Spotted: taking cover behind a car. Spotted: shooting a car’s bonnet until it blows up. Spotted: pouting. Spotted: cranes. Spotted: exposions. Spotted: a small mech. Spotted: another explosion. So it’s a game about explosions.
– Robert Purchese
Housemarque’s new game Saros launches 2026
A beach now, and a bearded person face down in the water, with a big fat sun medallion on, conspicuously dangling there so we notice it. They look up at an eclipse, saying, “Every time the sun dies, madness reigns. Then everything begins again.”
As they say this, a gigantic, many-hnaded creature rears out of the ocean, holding fiery globes in each hand.
Saros, this is called. Holy shit it’s Housemarque! Coming 2026.
– Robert Purchese
It’s a new single-player IP that builds on Returnal’s action, Housemarque tells us. New character but similar gameplay principles, it sounds like – ‘come back stronger’ being the tagline. Ooh, hot. Looking forward to that.
– Robert Purchese
Show ends
And that’s it. A mediocre showing. A slight heart flutter at the end at Housemarque’s new game, which is, yes, Returnal 2 in all but name, it seems.
– Robert Purchese
Gosh I keep meaning to go back but new things keep getting in the way!
– Robert Purchese
Haha. Oh man, I hate to break it to you…
– Robert Purchese
Ah, thank you – thank you all!
– Robert Purchese
No! Was it? It can’t be. I’ll eat my words if it is.
– Robert Purchese
I’m seeing lots of love for the octopus game!
– Robert Purchese
Goodnight and goodnight one and all. Thanks for joining us and making this a bit more bearable. Some things to look forward to, others to let slip by, maybe. Plenty to look forward to in the coming days and weeks, anyway.
