No, Sony Hasn’t Removed PS Store Slop, Contrary to Reports – PlayStation LifeStyle

Over the last few days, we’ve seen reports circulating that Sony has begun removing PS Store slop shovelware following an IGN investigation into the junk clogging PlayStation, Nintendo, and Xbox storefronts. However, there appears to be no evidence that Sony has taken any action recently, let alone in response to said investigation.Reports of Sony removing “eslop” stem from a PSNProfiles forum discussion, where one user pointed out that all RandomSpinGames titles, which are basically junk, have disappeared. But these random delistings are nothing new, and there’s no indication that Sony cracked down on the developer. One look on the PS Store shows that all the known slop, like ‘Jumping [insert object here]’ games are still there. As a matter of fact, the first game I see in the Demo section is The Jumping Ice Cube, followed by The Jumping Donut — both of which have been in the store forever. As stated above, random PS Store delistings are nothing new. About five months ago, for example, a free game with easy trophies titled The Great Fleece popped up on the PS Store. It’s since been delisted, and no one knows why. Similarly, we don’t know if RandomSpinGames was nuked by Sony or the developer decided to pull their own games.Whatever the case, we see no evidence of PS Store slop being removed, and Sony certainly isn’t the type of company to snap into action mere days after a report — which only briefly mentions the PS Store — goes live. The headlines we’ve seen circulating are purely conjecture.Zarmena is a senior editor at PSLS. She has been with the site since 2014.Share article
