National Weather Service snowfall prediction map for Feb. 11 storm.The National Weather Service has upgraded its winter storm watch to a winter storm warning for most of Northern Virginia Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday morning.For Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, Prince William and Stafford counties, the warning is in effect from 1 p.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday. For Loudoun, Fauquier and Culpeper, the warning is in effect beginning at 11 a.m.Precipitation will begin as light snow Tuesday afternoon, changing to steady and heavy-at-times snow Tuesday night with total accumulations of 3-6 inches of snow.Overnight, precipitation transitions to a wintry mix of snow and freezing rain, which could continue into Wednesday morning.Ahead of the storm, Gov. Glenn Youngkin issued a state of emergency Monday morning, urging Virginians to be prepared for travel difficulties and potential power outages.Snow onset times for Feb. 11 storm.“With another round of winter weather across the state this week forecasted to bring heavy snow and ice, I am declaring a state of emergency so we can move resources around the state,” Youngkin said in a statement. “I urge all Virginians to monitor your local forecast and to prepare for possible impacts to roadways and infrastructure beginning overnight Monday throughout Tuesday.”The Virginia Department of Transportation’s Northern Virginia District crews were out pretreating roads Monday and will mobilize Tuesday morning as snow begins.”Stay off the roads Tuesday into Wednesday morning as heavy snow will make for hazardous road conditions,” VDOT said in a news release.
