Samsung Allegedly Had Two Galaxy S25 Edge Protoypes For Testing, And It Chose The Version That Offered A More Sleeker Design, At The Cost Of Additional Cameras & More – Wccftech

The Galaxy S25 Edge will defy Samsung’s traditional smartphone design approach for its flagship smartphones by rocking a sleek aesthetic that will most likely be the primary talking point of nearly everyone who gets a hold of this device. However, the Korean giant did not always want to take this route because a report states that Samsung allegedly had two prototypes of the Galaxy S25 Edge that were being tested, with the company ultimately deciding to mass produce the variant that offered astounding thinness levels. Unfortunately, this choice came at the cost of incorporating a rear triple-camera array and more compromises, which we will talk about in-depth here. The prototype that Samsung has officially chosen to unveil in the coming weeks is reported by Smart Prix to be 5.84mm thick, with a previous report stating that the sleek flagship will only ship with two cameras at the back, with one of the being the same 200MP sensor as Samsung’s top-end Galaxy S25 Ultra. The second prototype featured a thickness level of 6.4mm, meaning that it would have more room to cram in more features, such as an additional camera.Sadly, Samsung likely believes that the masses would prefer seeing an ultra-thin Galaxy S25 Edge showcased in markets all over the world, and that means compromising on the upgrades. In fact, before Galaxy Unpacked kicked off, we reported that the Galaxy S25 Edge was spotted on Geekbench 6 with an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite, but the multi-core scores did not reflect the chipset’s capabilities, as the scores were significantly lower than what the other Galaxy S25 models obtained. The route of achieving such a thickness level will leave little room for Samsung to add a robust vapor chamber, so the Snapdragon 8 Elite may not perform as well inside the Galaxy S25 Edge as it can on other devices. This design choice will also limit the handset’s overall battery capacity and charging speeds, with a 3C certification revealing that the smartphone will ship with a rather small 3,900mAh cell and support wattage of up to 25W.Then again, Samsung probably has a different agenda with the Galaxy S25 Edge, and with the launch slated to happen sometime in April, we will bear witness to how the iPhone 17 Air competitor fares in everyday use, so stay tuned for more updates.News Source: Smart PrixSome posts on wccftech.com may contain affiliate links.
