Rocksteady Lining Up New Single Player Batman Game After Suicide Squad Disaster, It’s Claimed – Push Square

During a deep dive into Warner Bros, journalist Jason Schreier reports the developer is “looking to return to Batman for a single-player game”.Whether this will be a return to its Batman: Arkham series or an entirely new story is unclear, but either way, the game is apparently a long way off, with sources claiming “the new project is years away from landing”.After wrapping up development of Batman: Arkham Knight and its post-launch DLC, the British team explored the online multiplayer space with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. A critical and commercial disaster, $200 million was lost making the game and bringing it to market. Poor post-launch support followed the release, which was recently wrapped up in an in-game comic book that walked back most of the big narrative twists. Instead of actually killing the Justice League, the superheroes turned out to be just clones of their real selves. This will be welcome news for fans of the developer, as the previous Batman: Arkham entries are widely considered some of the best superhero games ever made. It’s reported that some of the studio’s workforce is aiding Avalanche Software with an expanded version of Hogwarts Legacy, so not all of the team is together for a new Batman instalment at the time of writing. What do you want from a new Batman game out of Rocksteady Studios? Post your wishlist in the comments below.[source bloomberg.com]About Liam CroftLiam grew up with a PlayStation controller in his hands and a love for Metal Gear Solid. Nowadays, he’s found playing the latest and greatest PS5 games as well as supporting Derby County. That last detail is his downfall.Comments 51I’m not convinced that Rocksteady will exist in twelve months’ time, let alone release another Batman game. And all the people that made the OG masterpieces probably don’t work there anymore so this doesn’t mean much to me 😅. It’s likely a new Arkham game from them nowadays will be as bad as Suicide Squad@AndroidBango Yeah I’m not convinced either, Rocksteady have burnt a lot of good will.@AndroidBango WB can’t afford to completely shut down a studio. They don’t own a lot of studio, so shutting down Rocksteady would basically cripple their gaming division.Batman had a whole arkham trilogy and a prequel, they should do something else besides milk it . if they have to do batman then do Beyond or some alternate universe. i would say a teen titans game but considering how WB squandered gotham knights & suicide squad, idkOH WAIT A MINUTE, ITS JUST HIT ME – REMASTER ARKHAM ORIGINS!!! Hello!?! It deserves it so much! Best game in the series! it’s not up for debate 😂I mean yeah great but is it Arkham Knight at 60fps too much to ask? SighEven if this does make it to market, why should anyone give a s*** about a new Batman Arkham game when a lot of the people who made the old Arkham games what they are are gone? Even if they got Paul Dini back to write it, I would still be extremely skeptical of it being good.It won’t be the same without Kevin Conroy 😢😢😢Like Mass Effect, I’m surprised at how little I care. Once beloved franchises that squandered all good will.Between the current state of WB, and Rocksteady’s output from Knight onwards, it won’t see the light of day.I’d love to play a campy, open world Batman game based on 1966 tv show. Please make it happen!I would love a game based on Gotham by Gaslight.I wonder if Sony have any involvement with it cos there were rumours awhile back that they were publishing it.Hi All, – What do we want in a New Batman Game …? – Well, I would love that Wow factor that hit us when Asylum was released and Double Wow Factor when City Landed – How you create that same feeling of hard to put down Game Play and Narrative is a challenge – Who to Voice Batman ..? Not sure – But more Mark Hamill as Joker Please. – With the recent Penguin HBO, then another centre stage Character. – Batman not only the best Comic Book Character, but also a good depth of Villians@Keyblade-Dan This is the problem exactly. It’s the same issue Halo has, and the same issue Witcher 4 and Elder Scrolls 6 will have. Turnover is so incredibly high that almost none of the visionary designers who made those franchises beloved still work at the development studio. The branding remains but the studio is a Ship of Theseus.@nomither6 Strongly agreed! I love all the game in the series. But something quite special for Origins. Love the boss fight in that game. Play it on Deck. Such an amazing experience for meSo now they’re doing the game they should have done a decade ago? Add another half a decade to the dev cycle and we’re looking at a game 15 years late by which time I doubt they’ll be many of the people still there from the other titles to guarantee its quality and the gaming world will have moved on.Suicide squad might not have killed the justice league but it all but killed Rocksteady.Sounds good to me. I know people are skeptical after Suicide Squad which is fair. However, I have hope for them yet. They made a mistake with Suicide Squad. Mistakes happen but everyone deserves a second chance. And just because the original creators aren’t working there anymore doesn’t mean new talent can’t rise to the occasion. It’s happened before and could happen again here. And even if it is bad, it’s not like the older games are going anywhere so what do we got to lose?@BrotherFriede Bags of ‘swag’ the villains throwing big bombs around with the word ‘bomb’ on the side. Chief Ohara and all the wacky villains like king tut and Egg head. That would be awesome, bright colourful graphics and they could reuse the old voice work from the episodes to credit all the old actors who have passed. Sadly that’s too creative and we’ll get another live service gameSo much they could do to be fair, a game with the flash and other DC heroes done right would be really cool. JLA type game@BrotherFriede haha POW!!! that would be awesome 😂Honestly, last year’s Batman Arkham Shadow for VR was honestly pretty good, and I have hope for a good flatscreen Batman Arkham game in the future.@amatmulisha exactly! it’s just something about it!I’m surprised Warner Bros didn’t shut them down tbh@glennthefrog Exactly it’s like the Intergalactic trailer proudly flashing FROM THE STUDIO THAT BROUGHT YOU CRASH BANDICOOT AND JAK AND DAXTER!!! Like everyone who made those left ND eons ago 😅Leave Batman to rest for a while, IMO. They nailed it with the Arkham games, and those are still very playable on modern hardware.Explore some other DC characters. Green Arrow has some name recognition after the TV series. Cyborg was in the JL movies, and provides an obvious route into RPG upgrade mechanics.Or just move away from the traditional superheroes. Go more adult. Preacher is a DC imprint, and has a wider fanbase thanks to the TV show. John Constantine is another (albeit it’s been a while since that movie). The Sandman is probably a no-go given the allegations against Gaiman… Watchmen is pretty well known at this point too.Ideally, let the Rocksteady that exists today take some time to brainstorm and pick what they want to work on next. If that’s Batman, then so be it, but I’d personally see that as a missed opportunity.Any new Batman game now needs to be a reboot and forget about the Arkham universe. Kevin is sadly no longer with us and Mark Hamill is no longer the Joker and by the time this releases it’ll be around 15 years since Arkham Knight, so there is no need to limit what the story can bePass. Rocksteady is dead to me. Just like 85% of the gaming industryHmm…. it’s almost as if they could’ve done this in the first place and saved 200 million…A Batman Beyond game would be awesome and getting Will Friedle to voice him would be top notch@AndroidBango they’re not an indie developer are they. They will still be running hopefully we get more news for this new gameIs it too much to ask for someone other than batman to get a game?“Instead of actually killing the Justice League, the superheroes turned out to be just clones of their real selves.“Well everyone except Wonder Woman 😂😂😂😂😂But we don’t mention her👀Rocksteady crapped all over it’s legacy with SS. You don’t get a pass for something that atrocious and then try to roadmap your way back to relevance using the glory days. Toss the studio on the scrap heap.Too little too late. I’ll take just about any other DC hero at this point (Green Arrow? Swamp Thing? Detective Chimp?), or as mentioned upthread, an Origins remaster.@nomither6 btw. A Teen Titans game similar to arkham games from rocksteady, I can dream lol.The devs who made the Arkham series have all gone so it wouldn’t be good anywayThey lost me and I’m not coming back.I’m skeptical the game would be as good as Arkham Asylum, City, Knight, or Origins.Another BioWare scenario where I don’t care because it’s only a name above the front door of the offices. The talent have gone. This is a bit of a sad generation. So many studios wasted chasing the dream of a Fortnite cash cow, and ultimately seeing the projects cancelled or flopping. As a result we are missing a half a dozen 9/10 or 10/10 all time classic single player games, that never got made. It’s as if DC is trying to get the games to follow the same pattern as their movies, scatterbrained mess with gems few and far between. James Gunn won’t save that boat either. He’s the one who started making a joke off of everything in marvel so that nothing feels meaningful in it.A spoiler alert would’ve been much appreciated. I was going to start the game :/If we are honest Arkham Knight was a big disappointment, not just the Batmobile stuff but it was bloated and the story was poor after honouring batmans legacy so well in the past. But anything they put out now will make that look like a 10.It’s interesting in games that individual creators aren’t valued and followed more than companies. Maybe apart from Kojima. Like you don’t go see a Chris Nolan film and think “damn, what are Universal going to do next?” No. You wanna see the next Nolan film. We should look forward to the new games from the talented people who made them, not the zombie brand names they left behind. Eg. Exodus from the Mass Effect creators, not whatever Bioware scraps out.Don’t care about a new one at all – after the suicide squad turd there’s no faith a new one would be any good.Wish these Muppets would just give the Arkham series a 60fps boost though. Ridiculous nothings been done for them. The Rocksteady ship has sailed for me. WB corrupts everything it touches.I wish them the best, but after Suicide Squad they will never see another dime from me.@nomither6 If they do go the batman route, I would also prefer it be set in the ‘future’ universe. A big, tech-based city, full of skyscrapers and a cyberpunk aesthetic, with Terry as the player character.I didn’t think Arkham Knight was that great a game (not bad, but certainly not on Asylum’s or City’s level) and that was when Rocksteady had talented people working there. I can’t imagine what kind of an absolute joke a Batman game by the current team would be.@Gamer83 Arkham Knight was great. The dev team from that era is gone so they need to nail the recruitment if they are going back to that well yet again.@JohntheRaptor agreed. arkham knight is amazing. aside from too much batmobile it’s the quintessential batman experienceI’m afraid it’s most likely too little too late.
