She also wishes she was a Sega air pirate.Comments 17I wanted to get Cho Aniki Collection just for the laughs, weirdness and history, but oh boy, is it over-priced for a nonsensical, fever-dream game.Both the Citizen Sleeper games (so potentially through this collection or individually depending on discounts) and Momodora Moonlit Farewell eventually for sure, most likely also Sugoro Quest as I’m curious after looking it up and it apparently coming outside of Japan for the first time, maybe also Civilization VII and Under Defeat and that should be it for me!Momodora was preordered as soon as I knew it would be available. I’m expecting it to be my last game on Switch til the next generation… for right now, at least.And elsewhere, I think, day by day, I’m getting closer toward ordering Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, but that’s on a different platform. Just hearing people sling the term “masterpiece” is making it hard to resist getting it, but Momodora, if it’s half as good as its predecessors, will certainly be worth being my one game for a bit, no distractions, so I’ll be able to hold off KCD2 maybe long enough for Avowed’s review embargo… 😵‍💫Urban Myth Dissolution Center for me!Gonna try to sneak it in before Avowed and Monster Hunter.With the Switch 2 on the horizon, I wonder how many of these new releases will get enhanced versions. Under defeats gotta be the highlight of the week for me though. that and civ VII@Soroush There’s a fairly decent chance that MOST games released in the last couple years have coding built in to take advantage of better hardware day one. Much like Series X and FPS boost/upscaling for 360/XB1 titles.I think a few games have actually proved it (like Scarlet/Violet) via data mining. A lot of devs were expecting a mid gen refresh around 2021, but we got the OLED instead. Before that even there was an article on here where Nintendo had been telling its partners to make their games with upscaling in mind.So I think it’s a really safe bet that a majority of retail titles you purchase on Switch now will benefit from Switch 2 even without proper patches.Grabbing Unban Myth Dissolution Center and Momodora physically. I enjoy the few Macross games on NES, Super NES, Turbo CD, PlayStation 1 & 2, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, PSP, and Dreamcast so will definitely get this one too.@Soroush I doubt Nintendo would be the type to charge for upgraded versions, most of the industry has gotten away from that.As far as difference between scaling and bespoke patch, see the difference of something like Witcher 3 or FO4. Both had simple FPS boosts on Series X, but then got 4k next gen patches with ray tracing and such. So likely Switch 2 would just provide a stable frame rate / stable res (for dynamic res games) out of the box, but Switch 2 specific updates would allow the game to take full advantage of the hardware likely being able to increase capped resolutions / capped fps.Only Nintendo and dedicated third party companies like CDPR would likely issue bespoke updates like that however. And some of the better indies as well. The rest would be up in the air on whether or not it’s worth it to revisit the game and update it for the folks that already own the standard Switch version.Make no mistake though it def isn’t outside the realm of possibility for certain (third party) companies to purposely sell two skus of the same game, like EA might do with FIFA title or something. The standard Switch version costing say $50 and the S2 version $60. But it’s unlikely we’ll see upcharges for patches which do the same thing. Gamers rebelled on that with PS4->Ps5 patches and industry bent the knee….Just a quick note about Macross Shooting Insight. It looks like the Hikaru and Minmay DLC is removed from the English version. Do you think Nintendo will set any kind of standard for third-party developers, or will it be a case-by-case situation where each publisher decides how to handle upgrades?@Soroush I hope Nintendo takes the approach that Microsoft did where standard graphical enhancements via patch should be provided free of charge for current owners of a game – FO4/Witcher 3/Cyberpunk are just some of the few I know received free patches to enhance games frame rate, resolution, and next gen abilities. All free of charge.Meanwhile on the Ps side, originally those same enhancement types were be charged an upgrade fee originally. I remember my friend in the Netherlands complaining about it on God of War and Final Fantasy 7R. Thankfully that is no longer the case, but at the time it is what made me decide to go Xbox over Ps this Gen.As you said, typically Nintendo has done a “Deluxe” route with stuff like MK8, New Mario U, etc. But at least with those it wasn’t just a straight up graphical upgrade, and included more stuff. Their deluxe editions are like a “Remaster 1.5”. Not a full Remake for sure; but a def a cut above graphic update and Remaster. Typically including extras and cut content.I truly doubt we’ll see any up charging even from third parties for just flat graphical updates, as that type of patch doesn’t require that much man power and time to achieve. But we may (likely) see Deluxe, Director Cut, or Special/Anniversary editions from all parties, including Nintendo, which is fine as long as it provides extras or at the very least packages in any dlc for free. Skyrim anniversary was like playing an entirely different game. So many new items and quests from the start!@Dm9982 That’s a great point about Microsoft’s approach—free next-gen patches definitely helped their goodwill with players, and it would be great if Nintendo followed suit. Given how consumer pushback influenced Sony to drop upgrade fees, maybe that industry-wide shift will push Nintendo in a similar direction, at least for basic graphical enhancements.I agree that Nintendo’s ‘Deluxe’ editions tend to go beyond just a graphical boost.
