Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Player Count Dwarfs Every Medieval Battle in History – Push Square
GuestGuestLogin | Sign UpPush SquareGuestLogin or Sign UpThy Kingdom Come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in HeavenAcross the 1000 years of history commonly known as the Middle Ages, when human populations drastically declined, not even the greatest medieval battles of the era (coincidentally, contemporary and geographically close by) involved (on both sides) anywhere close to as many people as are currently playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance II on PC alone. As foretold, the peerless RPG from developer Warhorse Studios has finally arrived. At least on Steam, where such things are visible, a vast host of almost 160,000 players answered the call to arms, and that on a Tuesday in February. It’s a stunning success from a formerly niche developer. As with Larian Studios and Baldur’s Gate 3, this feat has already irrevocably changed the course of Warhorse’s destiny forever and (in this humble, barely-literate scribe’s opinion) elevated it to the industry’s highest echelon. The heritage of the Kingdom Come series is very much on PC, and so we’d be surprised if that many were playing on other platforms. Still, considering the nearly immaculate nature of the pre-release build we played for review on PS5 Pro and the massive day one patch that’s been promised, we’re reasonably confident that fans of quality RPGs on PlayStation will put up similarly heroic numbers.Fortune favours the braveDid you expect Kingdom Come: Deliverance II to be such a resounding success? Are you interested in how Warhorse is doing things differently, or do you find some of the game’s more hardcore simulation mechanics a bit offputting? (sorry for being political). Serisouly congrats on doing what they said they were doing on the box. A well deserved outcome for their efforts.I expected it to excel! It is a very special game, and I am genuinely in agreement that the way they handled the game launch was perfect*.However, I didn’t expect such a positive reception. PushSquarians (myself included) are dying to let others know they don’t like/am interested in a game in the comments.Games are very expensive and people think that because KCD 1 have been cheaply available then they can just wait a couple of months, but not if Warhorse are being more careful with sales this time around.*People with a certain agenda haven’t been fair in their evaluation of the game. Basically, saying that people in the game say ‘wench’ too much (IGN) or assigned someone biased towards negative in their coverage (Eurogamer), and Polygon didn’t even get an invite to play as other outlets did. They got to write a very funny article about how THEY HAVE NO IDEA why Warhorse opts out.I loved the first game, and thought they’d be in a position to break out with their second.@EfYI Polygon were just being polite not outright stating it. It’s a bit of a petty reason to hold back review copies, and picking and choosing your reviewers is not a good thing even if you have an excellent game.People are making way too big a deal of this. The developers don’t want to be involved either way. They just want to make games. And i got to read up on some legitimately interesting history pieces at the time because of the discussionNever played the first ..bought this yesterday …haven’t started it up yet …going to try tonight …going to give it a real go to get into it …I had just looked up on YouTube for streams and the 1st won to come up was smash jt and there discussing if the game is woke with a poll and 60% saying it is woke people have lost there minds 😳 🤣KCD 2 is seeing Agincourt levels of success.I’m not sure if I’d like the game so I’m going to purchase KCD 1 for £6, play that, and if I like it, get number 2 on sale. Seems like a good idea to me…@Drago201 A great existential crisis is coming for these crusaders when they get what yearn for. Much like the conundrum of how to avoid boredom in a utopia these folk will face an ever deepening reality that they’ve nothing to offer once the holy land is reached. Peddling the same tripe in a world they willingly ushered in isn’t going to lead anywhere but the job centre.@EfYI IGN review was glowing, and honestly who cares if Eurogamer was biased, these are opinions at the end of the day. They’re always biased. I don’t get why people get fixated on specific reviews of sites they don’t even like.@Drago201 so my guess is – KCD2 is literally the end of gamer-gate 2.0… mark my words, once the snake starts devouring itself, the end is nigh…. (ok, that’s a little too much)Seriously many people have been increasingly annoyed at how bad writing/messaging/idealogy has become in escapist games… but it’s now become it’s own mini industry to the point where they are actually attacking literal Shadows (you see what I did there)…. but when they started going after KCD2/Vavra I knew the current storm-in-a-teacup were down to the tea-leaves. Thank God.Edit – until of March when it all kicks off again… or whenever Ubisoft implodes.Thankfully this isn’t a movie review site – over there it’s just warming up.Removed – off-topicRemoved – off-topic@Drago201 I’m tracking that Henry isn’t a normal straight Christian man anymore. Which is what has caused people to be mad. As in KCD1 he wasn’t that way. For every new game that comes out that’s just the questions that we will always see going forward “Is game [x] woke.” And what constitutes that term depends on the individual.I love that Henry can romance Hans Capon in the new game. Considering the first game, it should be hilarious too.@Vaako007 the thing is he can be a straight Cristian man it’s options nothing is set in stonereally, REALLY thought this wasn’t for me. But after my friend got it yesterday, and screen shared the first few hours to my PS5 last night, I’m now getting very tempted to try it.I’m about four hours in and there is an overwhelming amount to do. First things first, try and make 120 coin to buy a permanent room to sleep. Then find my dog, or my horse, or a fight tournament or steal a maypole, or search for gear or pick flowers to level up to sale them for four times the price or explore the map or or or….@StylesT Same, bought it in the PS store sale (about £6). If I can get into the first game then I’ll probably end up buying KCD2 at some point. Only thing is, is that there are so many games coming out this year, and both KCD games sound like big time sinks.Ohh, how I would love to play Kingdom Come… unfortunately I didn’t get how to fight, so it is unplayable for me… 😢@EfYI it’s quite refreshing to play a game where men are men and women are buxom and pretty, the game is superb though, i had a tough time with the first games fighting, but I’ve got the hang of this one quite quickly, loving the alchemy , only played for a few hours but it really is something quite special.@Drago201 it’s far from woke , well my game isn’t,my henry is a womanising ,hard drinking rogue, who loves nothing better than staring at the ample charms of the local wench, and believe me those wench’s are exceedingly ample🤣@Nightcrawler71 I wouldn’t judge the second game on the first , at least on console, the first is janky and looks crap , the fighting is far harder in the first due to sometimes dropping to 20fps, and everything is just more finicky.Glad to see it’s sold well.I’ve been on the fence with this game for a while, but the reception has been so strong, that I’m seriously considering picking this up this weekend.I played a little of the first game and loved the setting/tone, but some of the more simulation-based mechanics turned me off. Can anyone speak to if the simulation stuff is more palatable in 2?Put around 8 hours into it so far and its everything i’ve wanted and more. The jump from KCD1 to KCD2 is huge on a technical level.@DennisReynolds I’ve got weird black seams on the ladies necks like a black line , is that there for you ?@lazarus11 Not that i’ve noticed.@lazarus11Yes, may not be best example but im getting feeling (as someone who played kcd1 for 20 mins on ps5 for 20 mins couple of years back), that playing the first game before deciding to purchase the second, would be like playing witcher 1 as litmus test before buying the vastly superior an in many people’s eyes ‘must plays’ witcher 3.Whereas if question was should I play GOW 2018, to get insight into purchasing ragnorok…**yes, I know some may say ‘well, as it’s now on ps plus…’ but I’m sure you the idea of my point @DennisReynolds I cleared my cache and that resolved the issue, weird.@SquawkingTurtle I’ve heard they’re allowing you to change your appearance in a later patch.I keep pressing L1 to block, like it was in the first game, instead of L2 and it’s cost me on a few occasions. Stupid muscle memory.@StylesTCaptain James T Kirk playing KCD2? Awesome!
