Classic The Sims Launches on PC, But No Sign of the PS2 Versions – Push Square

GuestGuestLogin | Sign UpPush SquareGuestLogin or Sign UpConsole hopes crushed for nowUpdate [Sun 2nd Feb 2025, 5:30am]:The Sims made its name on PC, of course, so it’s no surprise to see EA bring back the originals on Windows under the guise of the Legacy Collection.Still, it sold millions upon millions of copies on the PS2, so we’re a little gutted the publisher’s preservation project doesn’t extend to PlayStation. Perhaps there’s a possibility the first two titles in the series will be ported as part of PS Plus Premium in the future.Either way, you can buy The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection for $19.99 apiece, or as part of a $39.99 bundle on PC right now. They include all released expansion packs, which is neat. We’ll check in with EA to see if there are any plans to bring any classic The Sims titles back on PS5 and PS4 at all.Original Story: The earlier games in EA’s The Sims series have been rather difficult to buy and play in modern times, but that seems like it’ll soon change. According to Kotaku and a teaser from EA itself, new ports of The Sims 1 and 2 are soon to be released on PC, finally allowing fans to easily dive into these classic titles as the franchise approaches its 25th anniversary. As things stand, it appears that the games will be made available on computers, but there’s no word yet on whether they’ll also make it onto consoles. What are the chances, then? Somewhat slim, we’d say, but certainly not outside the realm of possibility. The Sims has been on consoles in some form or another since 2003, when an adaptation of the original was released for PS2. It was fairly different from the PC classic, though much of the core remained intact.PS2 and PSP versions of The Sims 2 emerged in 2005, again somewhat different from the original. The Sims 4 on console is much closer to the PC title than these earlier console versions are to their respective games, but they’re not without their fans.Anyway, The Sims has been on consoles for nearly as long as it’s been on PC, albeit in a less uniform manner. We could definitely see The Sims 1 and 2 being brought over to PS5, and if they were, we imagine they’d be the same as they are on PC.However, The Sims is first and foremost a PC series, so a console port may come later, or may not even happen at all. We’d absolutely like to see these earlier Sims games come to PS5, and those altered PS2 ports are more than welcome too. What do you think? Would you like to see The Sims 1 and 2 be released for PS5? I’d love a remaster of the first 2 on PS5 provided it was the full experience.Sims always played like s*** on consoles. I’d be pretty into a Sims 1 rerelease, but I would absolutely play on PC. Assuming they’re bare bones ports, an electric potato can run the thing, so there wouldn’t be much barrier for entry for anyone with any kind of PC.The original was the best. Sims 4 doesn’t even compare.I expect console ports. Probably won’t use the touchpad though. May use the mouse mode on Switch 2 though, if EA feels fancy.Would be nice to get these on modern consoles, if only for preservation purposes. It’s obviously true these games were always best on PC though.I wonder what would stop them from releasing the PC versions on modern consoles? I’m sure it would only need a bit of reconfiguring for controller. Please The Sims 1 & 2 PC version with All Expansion Packs on PS5. 😃In physical release. And it will be DAY ONE FOR ME.Would be cool if they came to console. Sims 2 was the best Sims game in my view.100% I’m getting these when they release on PC but I’m still holding out hope for a version of The Sims 3 that runs well. I also hope that they are reasonably priced.Modernised with all New extra DLC ofcourse.MySims was a DS/Wii game and then the re-release came to Switch so I think considering Sims 1 and 2 came to PS2/Gamecube/Xbox, they’d come to PS5/Switch/Series X|S.My childhood in one package!!!@ #3 youre just bad lolAnyways dont get too excited. Its not about players. EA only cares about money. Look at the sims 4 over staying its welcome. Sims 4 with dlc is priced over consoles and has no structure. Just an empty shell of a game. I imagine its going to be like how the Tomb Raider Trilogy came out. Massive disappointment. Nostalgic players are their main target. Itll basically generate a passive income for them because they wont put any effort into it.Would be great to see a re-release of the original Sims 1&2. They’re currently delisted, and last I checked it was quite fiddly to get it running with the various expansions. If they release a complete package with all the expansions to modern hardware, then I’d be eager to buy it.I doubt they’re going to touch the alternate PS2 ports and spin-offs, but I had an absolute blast with The Sims Bustin’ Out back in the day.I hope they do a deluxe version that includes everything in one package, base game and all DLC.They already have away Sims 2 years ago The Sims 2 Ultimate edition I have it in my account from god I think 20 year anniversary or something but it had every bit of DLC for free when they didIt runs in modern hardware but you need a few mods to her it working for Resolution 1080p erc@Wicker I mean, considering how annoying it is to get the first 2 sims games running I’ll take a bare bones port at this point.Sims 2 I think worked best on consoles, it was actual character movement like other genres of video games then the cursor approach of the series/genre with 1, 3 or 4.Getting the PC games to work is something if have an old computer around and an old OS to run them compared to compatibility mode of WIndows and well they aren’t on Steam because why would EA do that (besides yes music licensing even if Sim language). Then again when you got Sims 3 on Wii it was character movement and stutters to load between areas yet you have a Wiimote pointer I don’t know if used….. but PS3/360 it was cursor….. so logic there. XD At least DS was well stylus use.Playing Castaway on Wii or Sims 2, Pets and Bustin’ Out (missions can be tricky sometimes and working out Sims needs and missions is a challenge) on PS2 was interesting of the missions, scenarios or differences but I had Pets on PSP so the PS2 version wasn’t a surprise there.I don’t mind the story based ones on handhelds.I enjoy Sims 1 & 2’s limits on PC and 2 or 3 are impressive for their ideas that 4 is the most barren in the series after 10 years. 2 and 3 have limits too but still more impressive and still good mix of personality and believe-ability of Sims gamey logic and real logic.EA just wanting to offer something is ‘something’ but I mean they cancelled Sims 5 and went eh Sims 4 DLC packs forever. Then again My Sims on Switch is…. something. Probably fair port but still, bundling both like that hmm. They are out of ideas but at the same time an audience hasn’t played My Sims so I mean it’s something to offer people for sure. Even though they could just make a Sims but more accessible they made My Sims be basic building and ok goals in an Animal Crossing way. It’s fair or other types of games using that brand. The amount of Sims details videos of 1-3 has been interesting as well the fanbase is clear with those that are fine with Sims 4 and those that hate it and go yep just play 1-3, mod them or just whatever the packs added but mostly mods.Kind of how I see Open Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 and it’s improvements fans have given it.If they released The Sims 2 (hopefully with most of the Expansions/”Stuff” Packs all included, like a “Complete Edition” or whatever) on PS5 I’d buy Day 1.So many memories during early High School just messing around in The Sims 2, so much fun. Also Sim City 4 👌Sims 2 is one of my favourite games, still playable on current PCs if you do a little bit of fiddling with it. Based on what we’ve heard so far this sounds very low effort, to the point that even calling it a remaster is a stretch, so I certainly don’t expect console ports. Sims 2 with a platinum would be so targeted at me specifically that I might implode though. You guys are part of the problem,no wonder we don’t get new *****!I had fun with the console versions of 3 and 3 Pets. Hope they bring the full 3 with expansions to PlayStation. Its also probably the fact that Sims 5 was cancelled it was in pre production and then EA just cancelled it because I think that other game Xnos or however it’s spelt sort of made Sims a joke with it’s Disney graphics. Were as the the other game uses Unreal engine yet it’s early access on steam but recently they have lost a lot of share prices and are cutting back as well. This is probably just to claw back some money from the die hard Sims fans mostly@Nakatomi_Uk Part of it is that there was essentially no way to get Sims 1 and 2 legally before. Now there is and they can make a big deal about it and charge £35 instead of the £5 it would have cost if it was just a GOG release. That’s okay I can wait until they patch out all the bugs. It released in an awful state, even to the point where launching the game above 800×600 causes a crash. It really does feel like a cash grab.Played The Sims 2 on PC eons ago and it’s not for me. But i get it why people like it.@Ichiban There’s plenty of new IP’s and sequel released last year. Did you buy them?TBH, if they were to attempt a port, would think it’d make better sense to get the PC version playable via console. That said,if there were EA titles I’d be more interested in via PS1/PS2 Classics, maybe on Syndicate Wars,(though already was on GOG), or Theme Park/Hospital, Wing Commander 3 or 4,the Need for Speed series,(esp. Underground 1 & 2),the SSX Series, maybe MOH Frontline are a few that come to mind I’d really like to see!Or indeed the Desert/Jungle Strike series from their 16bit era!@GirlVersusGame “It really does feel like a cash grab.”It always is with EA these days, sadly. Both re-releases have mixed reviews on Steam right now, so hopefully they’ll listen to the fans and release some significant patches to finally make these games playable again in the coming weeks.Frankly, I’ve been burnt way too much by EA in the past and refuse to take any more chances with this greedy, shameless corporation. At least until they’ve proven they actually care about their products and make them worth our while again.I was going to pick them up, but the price is too high for the few fixes they’ve applied, so I’ll just wait until there’s a sale. I’d love an emulation of Bustin’ Out or Urbz on PS5 but I don’t see it happening.@Jalex_64 I gave them a chance with The Sims because I thought ‘surely they can’t mess that up’ oh boy did they ever. It’s insultingly broken, if any other industry put out such shoddy products there would be something done about it. The games industry is becoming a license to steal, at least for companies like EA. I remember an update they pushed out a while ago ruined peoples PCs, this time it only cost me a refund.I don’t care much about PS5 release for this, but they really should release for Mac and possibly Switch 2 (the supposed mouse controller would be a good fit).I am interested in this but it seems from all the Steam comments the game is broken to hell. I guess they feel they can get away with this though because there’s no other convenient way to acquire these anymore.I don’t care much for The Sims, but if we ever got ports of the GBA versions of The Sims: Bustin’ Out and The Urbz with trophy support I would be very happy. It’d never happen though.I don’t think the first Sims got a console version but I remembering playing The Sims 2 on PS2 for hours as a kid and loved it. I don’t see them releasing console ports of the PC versions though..They’d have to not only update and port over old code but have to deal with the UI and control scheme changes, and who knows what else Show CommentsLeave A CommentHold on there, you need to login to post a comment…Classic The Sims Launches on PC, But No Sign of the PS2 VersionsConsole hopes crushed for nowSplit Fiction Looks Absolutely Phenomenal in New Co-Op PS5 Gameplay TrailerUpdate: It’s also gone gold well ahead of launchBioWare Downsizing as It Focuses on Next Mass Effect, Some Staff Moved to Other EA TeamsStudio is in between “full development cycles”Dragon Age: The Veilguard Support Could Be Over Already as Patch 5 Drops on PS5No mention of PS5 Pro fixesEA Stock Price Plummets After Dragon Age: The Veilguard, FC 25 DisappointmentsVast hoards of speculative treasure, gone 57News Spider-Man 2’s Looking Like Another PC Own Goal from Sony 15News Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 a Technical Powerhouse on PS5 Pro, Says Digital Foundry 18News Sony Could Be Plotting a PS5 Livestream Around Valentine’s Day 13News Battlefield Fans Stand at Attention as EA Teases Community Testing Program 34News Ex-Sony Boss Says Xbox Can Find Multiplatform Software Success, Just Like SEGANews PS Plus Essential Games for February 2025 AnnouncedNews Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Is So Popular the Dev Can’t Meet Collector’s…Guide Sniper Elite Resistance: Dead Drop – All Collectibles: Personal Letters,…News PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4 Themes on PS5 Will Leave Tomorrow, But Sony Is Workin…Guide Sniper Elite Resistance: Sonderzüge Sabotage – All Collectibles: Person…Guide Sniper Elite Resistance: All Workbenches LocationsNews Forza Horizon 5 Confirmed for PS5, Out This SpringGuide Sniper Elite Resistance Guide: 100% Collectibles WalkthroughNews New God of War Ragnarok PS5, PS4 Patch Unlocks New Game+ Armor SetNews PS5 Remake Ninja Gaiden 2 Black to Get Even Better Next MonthPopular Right NowShow More Join 440,969 people following Push Square:© 2025 Hookshot Media, partner of IGN Entertainment | Hosted by 44 Bytes | AdChoices | Do Not Sell My Personal Information
