Cody Rhodes wins INSANE ladder match to remain WWE champion at Royal Rumble – Cageside Seats
Filed under:I cannot believe what I witnessed in this match.Cody Rhodes finally got Triple H to agree to bring back the famed Winged Eagle WWE championship title design for his match at Saturday Night’s Main Event against former friend Kevin Owens. He won that match, but an enraged Owens, unable to live with the defeat combined with Cody’s perceived betrayal of their bond, stole that belt and has refused to give it back.The way they decided to settle this, maybe once and for all? A ladder match at tonight’s (Sat., Feb. 1, 2025) Royal Rumble premium live event at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.They got after it right away, fighting through the crowd and giving us brutal looking shots like this:pic.twitter.com/lqfFXQdHr3Before some quick comedy relief in the form of a tiny ladder:It’s giving WrestleMania 23 flashbacks!#RoyalRumble pic.twitter.com/2Eg4cjnecXEven despite all the action, including with no less than four ladders set up in various spots in and around the ring, bridged to the announcer’s desk and all, the fans chanted for tables. They never got them but they did get some wicked bumps, including an absolutely brutal spot where Owens took a drop directly on the edge of a ladder.Kevin Owens’ back…#RoyalRumble pic.twitter.com/9vhm5xn0crOuch.Rhodes, too, took an awful bump on a ladder, getting powerbombed onto one but missing just enough that it appeared he hit his head on the way down. It looked awful but he was back up and at it shortly after. These two did not want to be shown up by a Rumble match.They did so much, in fact, that they stopped the match at one point after a fisherman buster on a bridged ladder to get the two checked on by WWE personnel. Even Sami Zayn appeared as if from nowhere, checking on both men with great concern.Still, they fought on.Owens went for the package piledriver on the announcer’s desk but instead took an Alabama Slam onto the aforementioned bridged ladder.
