Bloodborne 60 fps mod targeted by Sony DMCA takedown – Polygon

All good things must come to an endby Ian WalkerAll the way back in 2021, a prolific modder and researcher of FromSoftware games, named Lance McDonald, released his magnum opus: a 60 fps mod for Bloodborne. Now, almost four years later, Sony has made the unfortunate decision to issue a DMCA takedown forcing McDonald to stop publicly providing access to the patch files.“On February 21st, 2021, I created and released a patch for Bloodborne which makes the game run at 60fps,” McDonald said on X (formerly Twitter) on Jan. 31. “Today I received a DMCA takedown notification on behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment asking that I remove links to the patch I posted on the internet, so I’ve now done so.”Here’s what Bloodborne looked like with the mod installed:Pretty cool, huh? It’s a pity finding the files necessary to make this a reality on your own modded PlayStation 4 is going to be more difficult moving forward. The obvious hope is that Sony is targeting McDonald’s work so many years later because it’s working on improving Bloodborne’s framerate with a remaster or re-release of its own. That said, I wouldn’t advise anyone to hold their breath waiting for that pipe dream to become reality.Fortunately, if you have a beefy enough rig and the willpower to get an early PlayStation 4 emulator working, Bloodborne is very much playable on PC, with all the visual and performance upgrades one might expect from such a project. The best of Polygon in your inbox, every Friday.© 2025 Vox Media, LLC.
