The lawyer for Dajua Blanding, also known as Dank Demoss, says she recorded the alleged incident on her cell phone. The complaint, filed with Marko Law, says Blanding paid Lyft for a ride from her residence to a party at a relative’s house. The driver pulled up in a Mercedes Benz sedan, and when Blanding walked toward the car, the driver allegedly locked his doors and started to drive away. The lawsuit adds that the driver told her she was too big to get into his car and at one point, also said his tires could not support her weight.“Under the law, refusing someone transportation due to their weight is no different than refusing someone transportation based on their race or religion,” attorney Jon Marko said. The lawsuit adds that Blanding told the driver she could fit in the car, but the driver said he had a similar problem in the past and that overweight people should order a larger vehicle.Without commenting on a specific incident pending litigation, Lyft released a statement saying: “Lyft unequivocally condemns all forms of discrimination. We believe in a community where everyone is treated with equal respect and mutual kindness. Our community guidelines and terms of service explicitly prohibit harassment or discrimination.““Refusing someone transportation based on their weight is not only illegal, but dangerous,” added attorney Zach Runyan. “Imagine the consequences if Ms. Blanding were unable to seek shelter after the driver left her stranded. This could have ended even worse than it did.”If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
