Now 34 Tue 36 Wed 43by MOLLY LEVINE, NBC 10 NEWS TOPICS:WARWICK, R.I. (WJAR) — Southern New England restaurant owners are feeling the impacts of rising egg prices, causing some to adjust their menus. The ongoing bird flu outbreak in the United States is to blame for the rising costs.Jefferson Diner in Warwick, that’s been in business for 55 years, is one of the many local eateries feeling the pinch.”Four cases of eggs were $600,” said Kellie Mungo, the owner of Jefferson Diner.Mungo said she gets the diner’s eggs from a local vendor for normally about half that price.Because of the climb, her typical diner prices have gone up slightly. For each egg you may order, she adds 25 cents to the bill.”Everybody understands, but this egg crisis is going to take its toll,” said Mungo.Jefferson Diner is far from the only business impacted. Cozy Grill in Warwick has also adjusted their menu prices.”Before, the omelets were around $8, so they’ve gone up significantly so now they’re all around $12-15,” said Rachel Pilderian, whose family owns the Cozy Grill.”When people come in, they can see it in the prices, but we’re trying not to change too much,” said Pilderian.
