The Microsoft billionaire told the Times of London that he regrets his 2021 divorce from Melinda French Gates. Turns out money can’t buy you the love of a woman who has known you since before you were one of the most successful men in the world.“That was the mistake I most regret,” Bill said of his marriage while promoting his upcoming memoir, Source Code. In the years following their split, the former couple still ran the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation together. However, Melinda left last year. “The time is right for me to move forward into the next chapter of my philanthropy,” she shared in a statement.“There is a certain wonderfulness to spending your entire adult life with one person because of the memories and depth of things you have done and having kids together,” Bill told the Times. “When Melinda and I met, I was fairly successful but not ridiculously successful — that came during the time that we were together. So, she saw me through a lot. When we got divorced it was tough, then she made the decision to leave the foundation — I was disappointed that she took the option to go off.”When asked if divorce was the only failure in his life, Bill said that it was certainly “at the top of the list.” “There are others but none that matter,” he explained, “The divorce thing was miserable for me and Melinda for at least two years.”Despite his regrets, Bill is now with Paula Hurd, the widow of the late Oracle CEO Mark Hurd. And Melinda? Well, she’s living, laughing, and loving now that she’s no longer married to someone with ties to Jeffrey Epstein. Last fall, she was photographed holding hands with philanthropist Philip Vaughn after arriving in New York via helicopter.
