One student killed, another shot, student shooter dead in Antioch High School shooting – WLOS

(WZTV) — One student is dead and the teen shooter is dead after he opened fire inside Antioch High School Wednesday, authorities confirm.Metro Nashville Police Department’s (MNPD) Don Aaron says the shooter is identified as Solomon Henderson, a 17-year-old male student at the high school. He died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds.MNPD says Henderson entered the school cafeteria and shot a 16-year-old student identified as Josselin Corea Escalante. She died from injuries sustained.A male student, 17, was grazed in the arm and has since been released from Vanderbilt Hospital. There were four total transports in this incident, with the fourth student sustaining face injuries from a fall, not from being shot.Police say around 11 a.m. Wednesday, the shooter entered the school’s cafeteria with a pistol and fired multiple shots. MNPD started receiving calls for service at 11:11 a.m. MNPD Chief John Drake says there was an immediate response from various agencies, including MNPD.Once MNPD responded, officers searched the entire school for additional victims and shooters. None were found.A reunification site was designated for parents after the shooting. Buses were seen transporting students to the location.MNPD is currently working together with federal and state agencies to investigate “very concerning online writings and social media posts connected to 17-year-old Solomon Henderson” as they work to establish a motive.As of Wednesday night, authorities have not found a personal connection between Henderson and the two shooting victims. Investigators infer that they were hit at random in the cafeteria. Both school resource officers for Antioch High School were in a separate area of the campus. Once they rushed to the cafeteria, Henderson had just killed himself.Antioch High School announced that classes have been canceled for the rest of the week and grief counseling and other resources will be provided. Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) is provided resources and support to staff, students and families at Antioch High School at the Southeast Community Center located at 5260 Hickory Hollow Parkway. Grief counseling, hot meals and food boxes will be available. Metro Nashville Public Health Department is also providing additional mental health services beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday. Those who wish can walk in for counseling services at the Woodbine Public Health Center where licensed mental health clinicians are available for both English and Spanish speakers.
