The renewal comes two weeks after the Quinta Brunson sitcom returned for the back-half of its fourth season, which kicked off with an unlikely crossover with FXX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. It’s the first ABC series to be picked up for the 2025-26 TV season. Through its fall finale, Abbott was averaging 3.3 million total viewers and a 0.6 demo rating (with delayed playback), holding rock steady in audience versus Season 3. Its midseason premiere, leading out Shifting Gears’ boffo launch, drew 3.8 mil and 0.7 in Live+Same Day ratings, easily marking the elementary school series’ best numbers of the season.
Abbott Elementary stars Brunson (who also created the series) as Janine Teagues, a teacher at a cash-strapped Philadelphia elementary school. Tyler James Williams co-stars as Janine’s fellow teacher (and slow-burn love interest) Gregory, with Sheryl Lee Ralph as veteran teacher Barbara, Janelle James as principal Ava, Lisa Ann Walter and Chris Perfetti as teachers Melissa and Jacob, and William Stanford Davis as custodian Mr. Johnson. New episodes air Wednesdays at 8:30/7:30c on ABC (and stream next day on Hulu). TVLine’s Renewal Scorecard has been updated to reflect the Season 5 pickup. ΔYay! Love this show.Great news. One of the best shows on television right now.Whew! I was beginning to worry about ABC getting out of the scripted television game with the way things have been trending.Great news! Hoping with the new comedy lineup being a success for ABC it means we get more comedy!Good news but not unexpected as AE is awesome, and the Alphabet network could use some solid scripted programming. I would love to see again the ABC that rocked the 1970s and 1980s and enjoyed a reputation for quality dramas in the late 1980s and 1990s. It could go that way — big points for Will Trent, High Potential, and Shifting Gears — but not with the endless game show reboots, oddities like Judge Steve Harvey, and wasting Sunday primetime. As things change in DC, I’d like to see a genuine weekly newsmagazine to explain issues and less true crime.Saw it posted elsewhere earlier…was waiting on TVLine to post it too, YES!!!😜 Best comedy ensemble in years, well deserved.Abbott Elementary always going to be renews, it’s ABC best and biggest hitRelax, yes it gets rewards, but it’s ratings are just okay. I liked the show until it got over hyped, yet not as many people watch it as say Ghosts on CBS.Ratings isnt equal to quality. Take for example the show What We Do In the Shadows. Aside from ratings, it was superior in every way to Ghosts. You mean awards? Abbott is super strong on streaming. This season has been fantastic. Funny episodes with each character being focused on and expanding their stories more. I’m enjoying getting to know more about Eva, Melissa and Jacob more than we have before.Great to see Abbott renewed. Hoping ABC keeps it in a good timeslot with a compatible lead in, instead of sticking it after The Bachelor to fill a scheduling hole. Abbott is consistently funny, smart and well-written. I want more people to start watching – it deserves a bigger audience.Abbot Elementary needs a spinoff too.By providing your information, you agree to our Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy.
