Gaming Analyst Says There’s “Hope” In The Industry That Grand Theft Auto 6 Will Cost $100 – TheGamer
According to a gaming industry analyst, developers and publishers have “hope” that Grand Theft Auto 6 could cost as much as $100, something that would help rising development costs and allow others to raise their prices as well.Although the last few years have been absolute bangers when it comes to the quality of games released, it’s no secret that the gaming industry is in a very rough place right now. Countless studios and projects have been shut down, while the increasing focus on hyper-realism and perfection leads to games taking much more time and money to get out.Rockstar and Valve could earn 2025 a spot in the gaming history books.Things have been looking bleak for a while now, but there are a few very bright spots on the horizon. Alongside Nintendo finally releasing the Switch 2, the hopefully impending launch of GTA 6 in 2025 has a lot of us hoping that it’ll be a turning point for the industry. As it turns out, that hope is also shared with publishers and developers. As reported by VGC, Epyllion’s Matthew Ball just released a report focusing on the “State of Video Gaming in 2025”, which shares his thoughts on what might happen within the industry this year. Of course, a lot of that focus is out on GTA 6 which is primed to be one of the biggest game releases of all time, with some analysts predicting that it’ll make more than $1 billion in pre-orders alone.Within the report, Ball claims that there is “hope” within the industry between publishers and developers that Take-Two will respond to all of the excitement and hype surrounding GTA 6 by raising the default price of the game to $100. Considering the fact that GTA 6 is going to sell well no matter how much it costs, the industry is reportedly hoping the price gets raised so that others can follow suit. It’s worth noting that Take-Two were one of the first publishers to raise the default price of its games to $70 at the start of the current generation of consoles. That price rise is quite a jump considering games currently cost $70 and previously cost $60, but it’s believed that increase could help with the ballooning price of development, which is now longer and more expensive. It’s not clear if gamers will be willing to pay that much for anything other than GTA 6, but it does seem to be what publishers are hoping for.Pokemon Unite has launched in China, but it’s a completely different game. Share your opinions in the thread below and remember to keep it respectful.Your comment has not been savedAs much as publishers would love it, a 30-40% increase in the cost of new games would actually speed up the demise of the industry. Most average households are getting by and maybe 1, possibly 2 games a year they could afford to eat that cost, but it would just be the old standbys of COD, EA FC and the like. All other game series would inevitably see a decline in sales that would surely be greater than the increase in profit per person.Games don’t have to be purchased day one and eventually will go on sale. No reason to pay 100 for a gaming industry that can’t figure how to release playable games. Indy developers release far better games for much less id rather pay them.I agree but with companies making us go all digital they won’t have to lower the cost of games Nintendo is an example of that. I’d pass and wait for a sale at that price. I like GTA, but not that much Why would you wait two years for a sale when the price will only go down like 20 bucksLol I’ll quit gaming or will only support indie developers making games if they even remotely start charging $100 so they can pay executives bigger bonuses to constantly layoff the employees who made them that money.I agree this would hurt the industry, not help it. I’m also not rich and gaming allows me to unwind after a hard days work of working to put food on my families table. When games (especially just base games) start coming out at those prices….well that’s the time I sell my gaming systems. No game is worth that crazy amount of money. It’s just a game. It’s not edible, nor it is mandatory for survival. Not to mention I was on GTA5 on day one, and anyone who has, well all the issues and mostly broken game at launch…so to pay a $100 for it, umm not! This is such a terrible take. So out of touch it’s bordering insanity. Not just no, but hell no. Games have gotten bad enough that even $70 is an insult. Sure GTA will get away with $100 but it’s the biggest game on the planet. If everyone else starts doing it the flops are probably gonna tank the industry.$100 is even too much for always-online slop that will try and hide half the content behind a paywall anyway. R* got way too big of a head with V and need a bit of humbling.Video games have been priced under true retail value for over a decade, minimum. I am surprised videos games haven’t hit this mark in late 2000’s. I love GTA as much as anybody else, but I’d never pay that much for any game, periodI Believe that only GTA could get me to pay 100$ for day one. But I’ve waited over 12 yrs for this game. I could wait a Lil longer for it to go on sale. Every other game that tried to get that amount would have to give a 10 hr trial before making purchase. Even some of these 70$ aaa games are not worth their asking price. I can’t see how they can get higher. I don’t disagree about the rising cost of video game prices and how much they should be sold for, but let’s say that the $100 price point was put out last year, with how bad the reception to many games from big industries were, we’d see more studios close down than you could possibly imagine.Hell, I’d even say that Ubisoft would have gone bankrupt after their many failed projects. My point is, the gaming industry, primarily in the west, have lost touch with most of its audience and given new announcement in the last six months, have not learned much from the recent failures to create products worthy of the price hike.Like many will probably say, GTA 6 can probably get away with it, but many of the other studios could not unless they were giving out something of equal quality. And to be honest, when, not if, when the prices do go up in price, it may be the first year in gaming history, where a game gets low or no pre-orders, and have a player count similar to Concord at launch. This isn’t meant to be funny or to troll or anything. The next Concord or SSKTJ will break the gaming industry at the proposed $100 price point and could discourage potential buyers from giving well deserved games the benefit of the doubt after feeling like they were burned.$100 means that the next games need to surpass, TLoU (2013) Red Dead 2, Batman Arkham Knight, Elden Ring, Breath Of The Wilds, Overwatch (2016) and so on and so forth. And as of 2025, I do not believe we will see this for at least 1-2 years later after more studio closures and big losses in profit for the big studios.GTA should be $100…probably more. The quality of those games is insane for them to be priced the same as otherers. That really isn’t the issue. If other publishers think a game like GTA going for $100 for the base game gives them clearance to do the same with their relative trash, I say go ahead and find out. When nobody buys their games at that price, they will have to adjust to the market. Awful take while lots of developers are losing money because of subpar games that focus more on modern politics than actual gameplay or story, and this wouldn’t be an issue if any of these games actually had anything to say, but it’s all the same self-satisfying bullcrap they think people want to hear. Looking at all the best-selling games over the past year—Palworld, Elden Ring, Helldivers—none of these games focus on anything other than making a fun game for players to relax and unwind playing, without trying to tick boxes based on real-world issues and politics. Also, the market is wider than ever, with a niche for everyone. Games rarely come out that are must-plays, so people don’t need the latest $60 game when there’s plenty of better options being made by small studios who don’t have investors breathing down their necks, demanding the game has to have a battle pass system and massively overpriced skins that cost more than whole DLCs, with thousands of assets that take more time and effort to create than a mediocre skin that took 100th the time to make. They shouldn’t, but I feel like gta is the only title that could get away with it because of how high quality it will be when it releases Games need to wind down in scope, not blow up to such unbelievable levels as to turn singleplayer games into ever-expanding live-service worlds. If you’re a returning player pondering whether or not to purchase Tales of Graces f Remastered, this list of changes might help you to decide.Sadly, there’s no Fat Gotenks.
