“Wolf Man” Box-Office Coming In Low – Dark Horizons

It’s the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday in the U.S., but Universal’s horror play “Wolf Man” is unfortunately coming in behind expectations. The title has ended up in a neck-and-neck race with the SZA and Keke Palmer-led buddy comedy “One of Them Days,” the former earning $4.4 million on Friday while the latter is at $4.3 million. As such, both films are eyeing $12-14 million hauls for the four-day holiday with ‘Days’ expected to come out on top now. The R-rated comedy ‘Days’, which was made on a budget of $14 million, is soaring to its highest end of projections and has pulled in an A- CinemaScore from audiences and a strong 96% (7.0/10) on Rotten Tomatoes from critics.
The mixed/bad reviewed R-rated “Wolf Man” on the other hand is coming in below expectations, well below the $17 million projections going into the weekend along with a C- CinemaScore. It’s a far cry from the $28 million debut of director Leigh Whannell’s prior Universal monster reinvention “The Invisible Man”.Both films are tracking behind Disney’s “Mufasa: The Lion King” which is expected to take in $17 million through the four-day frame which will mark its fifth weekend of release. It will also pass the $200 million domestic mark during this weekend and will become one of the Top 10 North American releases of 2024.“Sonic the Hedgehog 3” is expected to come in fourth, while last week’s top release “Den of Thieves 2: Pantera” is sliding down to fifth place with what’s looking like a 50% drop from its $15 million opening last week. By end of weekend it will be tracking just behind its predecessor.Source: Variety
