New iPhone SE 4 images reveal premium finish, colors, more – 9to5Mac
Apple’s new iPhone SE 4 is expected to arrive this March, and now new images posted by Sonny Dickson on X give us a first look at what’s coming.Sonny Dickson regularly shares dummy models for new iPhones that tend to be pretty accurate to what Apple ends up releasing. Now, he’s shared the images above that provide a first look at the iPhone SE 4.We can glean a few key insights into the new iPhone from these images.First, it will come in two colors: black and white. The current iPhone SE comes in two similar shades—Midnight and Starlight—but also a third option: (PRODUCT)RED. It seems Apple may drop the red option with its new model.Another key detail revealed by these images is the larger camera bump. Even though the iPhone SE 4 will only feature a single rear camera, it’s much larger than the one found on the current SE.That’s because Apple is expected to give the SE 4 the same main camera that’s found on the iPhone 15 (or possibly even the iPhone 16).Finally, the side shot of the new SE 4 shows a premium-looking aluminum frame. Ultimately, the new frame is consistent with the iPhone 14’s design—like much of the new SE’s design is. But it definitely hits different than the current SE, which gives off more obvious ‘budget model’ vibes. The premium finish of the aluminum frame, combined with the neutral black and white color options, makes this model resemble Apple’s Pro-class iPhones.I might be reading too much into this, but seeing the iPhone SE 4 dummy model makes me think that the recent naming rumors around the SE may prove correct.Earlier this month, a leaker claimed the new SE would actually be branded iPhone 16E.I’m pretty sure this is gonna be a massive hit. It has pretty much everything most people could want. The only thing that will be a deal breaker to some is camera. I make horrible photos even with 12 Pro Max (when you don’t have eye for it, no camera helps), so I don’t care and I might switch to 16E this year. Hardware wise it will be more than enough for me. As for the design, it looks okay. If new Pro models would still use stainless steel, I’d be tempted to wait for 17 Pro Max, but the titanium bezels look so cheap to me, that aluminum makes no difference design wise to me, it looks pretty much the same – inexpensive. I really hope they’ll go back to steel one day.As I wrote in that week’s Rumor Replay column, my first impulse was to be skeptical of the rumor. But the number of iPhone 16-level features coming in the new SE gave me pause. Now, seeing these images, I wonder if the iPhone 16E name could prove true. This device doesn’t at all scream ‘budget model,’ so if Apple wanted to, it could brand it iPhone 16E, and possibly even keep the existing SE around at a lower price. In any case, it won’t be long before these questions are answered. What do you think of the new iPhone’s look?
