Walmart Suggests Nintendo Will Reveal Switch 2 This Week – Gizmodo
Who wants to see a Switch 2? Nintendo may be about to make an official announcement or at least release yet another teaser offering a peek at its upcoming console. Based on one routinely accurate leaker and Walmart, we should see something from Nintendo sometime on Thursday. On Wednesday, one of Canada’s Twitter accounts posted an odd picture with obvious implications if you were there for the original Switch launch. It featured Mario peaking behind the curtain with an uncomfortably leering face. It’s the same image Nintendo used close to eight years ago when it first set the date for its preview trailer of the “NX,” the initial codename for the original Switch console. The post was followed by a video posted by routine leaker Nate the Hate. There, he claimed that Nintendo would drop a reveal trailer sometime on Thursday, Jan. 16. He further claimed that the trailer wouldn’t focus on software but showcase the new hardware and perhaps offer an official glimpse into the handheld console’s specs. The new device should sport an 8-inch display plus removable controllers that could use magnets instead of rails.VGC and Eurogamer mentioned that their sources claimed a trailer set for this week. The Verge’s Tom Warren said a reveal video should be this week. According to Eurogamer, VGC claimed the software showcase would arrive sometime in February or March, but Switch fans may have to wait for the actual release in May or June. However, Google Search may have revealed a potential March release, as spotted by one Redditor on the r/NintendoSwitch2 subreddit. Screenshots show an Italian Amazon listing for the Switch 2 and a UK listing, both aiming for March 6. We’ve had a fair few leaks stemming from test models created by third-party cases and peripheral manufacturers. We’ve even seen the supposed motherboard and its new Nvidia chip, though we still don’t know if the dock will add any extra juice to support the console. The only piece of the puzzle missing is Nintendo itself. The Japanese console maker has been radio silent for months regarding its upcoming console. At this point, Nintendo would likely wait until late Wednesday before offering a hint about a sequel Switch trailer.
