Rumour: Konami And Square Enix Expected To Bolster ‘Switch 2’ Software Library With Major IP – Nintendo Life
GuestGuestLogin | Sign UpNintendo LifeGuestLogin or Sign UpAs you would hopeFollowing last week’s supposed ‘Switch 2’ hardware leaks, more hints about the software lineup are now circulating online.Apart from “more than half a dozen Ubisoft games” expected, Nate the Hate has claimed on his latest podcast Nintendo’s new system could also be getting Konami’s next Metal Gear Solid game. Here’s what he had to say:”Some other third-party games I have heard include Metal Gear Solid: Delta, which is coming out in 2025…I’m hopeful that maybe it is a day and date release, when it does come to Switch 2.”The source adds how Square Enix is also gearing up to release Final Fantasy VII Remake on the new Nintendo system in 2025, with Rebirth to apparently follow in 2026. As for the newest entry, it seems less likely:”I’ve had some people ask me will Final Fantasy 16 come to Switch 2 and to my knowledge, right now 16 is not planned for Switch 2 – Square Enix is prioritising Remake and Rebirth, because those are more iconic games, Cloud is a very iconic character versus Final Fantasy 16, while a good game, just hasn’t really clicked with a lot of people.”At the end of this, he mentions how all “major third-party developers” are considering an “array of ports” and suggests looking towards developers who have partnered with “Nvidia to showcase DLSS” and “even Ray tracing” on their games, to provide an idea of what else could end up on the new platform. As always this is a rumour, so take everything here with a grain of salt. The Switch reveal is scheduled to take place in the current fiscal year and could be happening very soon.An Assassin’s Creed “port” could lead the chargeMicrosoft, Electronic Arts, Epic Games and more…Plans to step up digital sales, shift from quantity to quality, and moreWould you be interested in playing any of the above-mentioned games on Switch’s successor? Especially for Square-Enix, when all their triple A titles sold less than expected because of the PS5 exclusivity. Please don’t waste time with 16. I did not find it to be anything other than a visual spectacle. The Switch 2 is likely going to be very well supported from the start. Most developers were caught out with the success of Switch and even when the games did start to come in the 2nd year, it was mostly all ports of older games. Switch 2 will likely get a lot of older ports too but I expect it’ll get most new games as well. Hopefully on the same day as the other consoles. If developers can have their games ready for Series S at launch, they can have them ready for Switch 2.Probabĺy won’t happen right away, if at all, but I’d just want native ports of KH for Switch 2. Package the full collections on physical carts and I’d pay full price.@OorWullie Hmm gotta prepaid for biggest SD card nowAll fun rumours, but this will definitely depend on how powerful the switch 2 really is.Konami must release Dance Dance Revolution for Switch 2.I wonder what the odds on GTAVI being part of the Switch 2 reveal are? A good chance? An outside chance? Or absolutely no chance? GTA’s history with Nintendo consoles suggest the latter but the enormous success of Switch suggests it would be mad not to port it. If GTAV had been on Switch early on, it would be competing with MK8D as the best selling Switch game.Konami needs to ask themselves the question “What is a man?” Metal Gear: Revengeance would be killer on the new system.@Zuljaras Smashes Wine Glass 🍷 “A MISERABLE PILE OF SECRETS!”GTA: ChinaTown Wars, remake/remaster, please!@link12684 I agree. As someone who loves FFVII – FFXII (Except X-2 lol), the demo of XVI sold that game to me.Unfortunately after finishing that game, my wife and I both thought that XVI is a big piece of trash. It’s like they can’t write a decent story since XII (even XII is meh tbh)FF7R again is another big disappointment. Gameplay was decent, but the story and characters are terribly boring.FF16 will be the last FF game that I bought without a discount, and I stopped watching game reviews after that.I seriously hope nintendo is doing someting abou the eshop trash that arent even worth it for free haha.@VHSGREMLIN “little pile” “But enough talk! Have at you!” Damn I am addicted to Castlevania @The-Chosen-one For the first year, the Eshop was fun to browse. It seemed to be curated with most new releases being of a certain quality. A few awful games got though like Vroom in the Night Sky but they were few and far between. Even that though is of higher quality to some of the nonsense that’s now releasing every week. It would be interesting to know how profitable it is for Nintendo having all this low quality shovelware on there. Surely it’s hurting the sales of quality games that are getting lost among the new releases. It’s unlikely…but if FF9 Remake is revealed during the Switch 2 rollout, I WILL have a heart attack live on stream.Square Enix my beloved. Really looking forward to what they will bring to the Switch successor! Konami, not as much, but we’ll see what they can do.@Zuljaras you and me both. (Also sorry for the misquote, English is my third language)Snake Eater for Super Switch would be phenomenal! Also Konami should release Zone of the Enders 1+2! on the new Switch.@link12684 I actually really enjoyed FF16. It was an really good and well written story with good dialogue. I also enjoyed the combat. So to each their own.If they manage to port FF16 to the Switch 2, then I hope they will do the same for the FF7 remakes. Those are among my favorite games at the moment.Miniscule effort ports are coming nothing new.No way this is true! If Switch 2 can run FFVII Rebirth, it will be able to run pretty much EVERYTHING (except for, maybe, GTAVI). Will we finally see a generation where the big games are also coming to the Nintendo console this time? I would like to see that happen!!Im more interested in new stuff than ports really. Altho baldurs gate 3 would be pretty sweet… But ive played it enough already!@XE77 Are you saying that FFVII Rebith is a minuscule game…?? Or you’re saying that it will be ported with huge technical sacrifices?@Zuljaras @VHSGREMLIN For some reason, I always thought that it was “miserable pile” too! Was there a version where it was translated like that?Hoping we see FFVII remake and rebirth from Square. Remake ran really well on Steam Deck so it should be possible.Lost track on who currently owns the Tomb Raider IP but if it’s Square, the reboot trilogy would be good.Portable remake and rebirth would be sweet! It’s looking to become a major port fest. Hopefully there are also some completely new games in development by third parties, not just rereleases. For me aslong as we’re not inundated with games on or around release its ok, I dont want to end up in backlog hell almost immediately on Switch 2 – I’m only just making a good effort on finishing Mario Wonder now@OorWullie I think GTA VI is unlikely, but also more likely than people realise. That game will be designed around the fast loading and RT capabilities of the PS5 and Series X/S, which the Switch 2 will also have access to, unlike the PS4 and Xbox One. So even if the raw specs are around PS4 to PS4 Pro level, the load times and ray tracing could make it feasible with some heavy DLSS use.The Xbox mandate is all Series X games must run on Series S after all, so Switch 2 won’t be that crazy of a leap.@OorWullie I’d shocked if they got GTA VI to run on switch 2, if we get anything from Rockstar for switch 2, I’d put my money on a RDR 2 port. As exciting as it is that more recent releases might make it to this new console, I hope it doesn’t stop Devs from making games that push the PS5 to it’s full potential, I can see them making less powerful games for the purposes of getting them to run on switch 2 as well as PS5That’s Gradius VI and Einhänder II as good as confirmed then!@the_beaverPossible technical sacrifices or cut & paste without optimization depending on hardware capabilities. Ports devaluate the significance of any given game in any series.@Ooyah It was always a “miserable little pile of secrets”. In the PSP version the phrase is totally different “A cesspit of hatred and lies.”. Those are the only 2 versions As always we’ll see and even more so since it’s from Nate the Hate, but I’d be surprised if Konami and Square Enix weren’t at work on Switch 2 releases and these ones are likely (and would definitely be welcome)!Just give us remastered of old games. With all their legendary dev team (no Kojima, no Igarashi, no Sakaguchi, no Fujioka, etc.) no longer with them I guess remastering old games for a new generation is a better way going forward for both companies than ever cause it seems their current team doesn’t know what to do with the current IPs.That’s cool and all but THE historical partner that completely deserted the switch and that I want back the most is Capcom! Now imagine of we could have massive support from Square, Konami and Capcom. It would be the snes days again.@XE77 Ok man, whatever. I guess you prefer consoles with only exclusives games like Nintendo 64 or Wii, with no multiplatform titles. I honestiy prefer the Switch with its tons of ports WAY MORE than those consoles. As for FFVII re whatever. Can we get a director’s cut of these game that would edit the scenario to just be the original and not the mess that the remake is. How did they effectively butcher it is absolutely beyond me.while I don’t believe “Switch 2” is being revealed on Thursday I do believe companies like Square, Konami and others will support the next console with bigger “newer” games that simply could not run on Switch, this is a given@Ooyah it was in my copy growing up and the current PS5 digital version.I’m likely in the minority here, but I’m not too bothered about third-party ports. I buy Nintendo systems mainly for Nintendo’s first and second-party titles, and indie games (bar a few outliers). Luckily, most indie games come to all platforms anyway. It’s good to see them both on board from the start. No doubt after the success of the Switch initial Third Party support will be strong.I expect a good 12 -15 titles for launch with a strong launch window.Switch was a huge platform for PS3/360 ports and I suspect Switch 2 will be even bigger for PS4/Xbone ports. There will be some games that get optimized from the PS5 but I’m skeptical they will be a quality most hardcore Switch players will want. I think of the Witcher and Doom ports. Technically feasible, but not aesthetically desirable.@the_beaverIf you say so, though ports have always been and will be where there’s easy money to be made on casuals. Please give us FFXIV on the Switch 2.Nate the Hate is a habitual liar, and this is just common sense. Major publishers will support new hardware with popular IP and boost sales? I would never have guessed! The Switch dominates the Japanese market, so I’m not surprised about them coming in feet first. Kind of wondering about EA since they’ve been feeling the cold of not having a lot of their top SKUs on the Switch. Clearly, Microsoft doesn’t to repeat Activision’s folly of not putting on their IPs onto the Switch. 2K… well they clearly “heart” the Switch, so I suspect a lot of continued support from them.@Jeronan The story was pretty good. I will happily say that. I just wished it was better-paced, like the side quests at the end. The gameplay felt like an elementary action game. For a series as big as Final Fantasy, I would have liked more options and customization.I’d buy Delta Snake Eater day one, for the Switch successor!@Mirastrix hahahahah you’re so right, and people think that dude has “insiders”, he just uses common sense to do his “leaks”. Laughable that people give leverage to that kind of people.@link12684 If I have to choose though, between FF16 and the new FF7 remakes, I rather have the FF7 remakes ported to Switch 2.The FF7 remakes are just so good. I would love to have them for the Switch 2, so I can play handheld.Tired of lazy shoddy ports being sold for marked up prices when they’re the same older titles selling for cheap on PlayStation and Xbox – same ***** happens every Nintendo console release – no thank you. Will def buy titles that have proper effort put in but not for inflated prices.I would trade the bad ff7 remakes for octopath 3 or triangle strategy 2 in an instantInserting obligatory ‘Give me Castlevania: SotN on Switch damnit!’ Comment here…@invictus4000 Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth come first.Suuuuuuuure they will lol@Jeronan They will still play it anyway, when next FF series come. 16, 7remake is a Amazing action rpg Show CommentsLeave A CommentHold on there, you need to login to post a comment…Nintendo Breaks Silence On ‘Switch 2’ Image And Video LeaksThe “official” announcement will take place this fiscal yearIs This Our Best Look Yet At ‘Switch 2’?Update: Genki had a visit from Nintendo’s lawyers, it’s claimedRumour: ‘Switch 2’ Will Reportedly Be Officially Revealed This ThursdayThough software won’t be the focusRumour: Switch Virtual Console Was Apparently Nintendo’s “Original Plan”What if?Surprise!
