Eva Longoria Donates $1M of Jeff Bezos Courage and Civility Award to Support L.A. Fire Recovery – Hollywood Reporter

Eva Longoria and her foundation are donating $1 million to aid those impacted by the fires currently raging across Los Angeles.
Longoria is supporting the Latino Community Foundation — led by Julián Castro — as well as the California Community Foundation with the funds, aimed at addressing the immediate needs as well as long-term recovery for those affected by both the Palisades and Eaton fires. Thousands have been forced to evacuate since the blazes broke out on Tuesday, destroying many homes and business and claiming 24 lives so far.

The former Desperate Housewives star’s $1 million donation comes from the $50 million Bezos Courage and Civility Award she was awarded in March, as part of the Jeff Bezos‘ annual prize to individuals who contribute to society significantly. Longoria has just 10 years to find a worthy charitable cause on which to spend that money, and it seems supporting the L.A. fire recovery is her first course of action.
Longoria previously posted on her Instagram that she would match $50,000 to charitable organization This Is About Humanity’s efforts to support frontline workers, farm workers, day laborers and families impacted by the wildfires; in the coming days she will also be volunteering with Global Empowerment Mission to pack and distribute fire relief to the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, as well as visiting the World Central Kitchen operation supporting victims and first responders of the Eaton Fire.
