Larian Studios’ CEO Teases That “The Story Ain’t Over Yet” – TheGamer

Baldur’s Gate 3 is fast approaching its last major update after two years, which means that creative director Swen Vincke — and much of Larian Studios — is now solely focused on its next project. We’re gonna be talking about this game for a decade and more. “It really has been an incredible journey so far. But the story ain’t over yet,” Vincke tweeted, responding to a video about Larian Studios’ history and how it went from near bankruptcy to launching one of the most critically acclaimed RPGs in the medium’s history (as reported by VideoGamer). “Stay tuned. Going to try to skip the dark night of the soul moment though if you don’t mind.”We don’t know what Larian has in store for us, but it revealed in July 2024 that its new game was about to “lift off”, and that the early stages of development had just begun. All we know at the moment is that it’s not another Dungeons & Dragons game, as Larian seeks to “develop [its] own IPs”. Perhaps it’s an entirely new series, a Divinity: Original Sin 2 sequel, or even both.Larian Studios actually has two games in development right now, which is why it opened a seventh studio in Warsaw, Poland last year. All Larian has said of these two games so far is that they are “very ambitious RPGs”, and that fans should “let [them] cook”. Their settings, stories, or whether they’ll launch in early access like Larian’s last two games, all remains a mystery. There’s no word on when we can expect to find out more, but Larian did tell VideoGamer that it has entered a “media blackout” as its “full attention is focused” on its next game. So, don’t expect an update any time soon. In fact, Vincke replied to his tweet that he’s “pretty sure someone else is working on the next rung of the infinite ladder of RPG dev” in the meantime.Your comment has not been savedYour changes have been savedEmail is sentEmail has already been sentBaldur’s Gate 3 is the long-awaited next chapter in the Dungeons & Dragons-based series of RPGs. Developed by Divinity creator Larian Studios, it puts you in the middle of a mind flayer invasion of Faerûn, over a century after the events of its predecessor. We want to hear from you! Share your opinions in the thread below and remember to keep it respectful.Your comment has not been savedOk, this headline is the worst case of clickbait I have seen in a long time. It implies that BG3 is releasing more story content, but that is NOT the point of the article. It’s once again recycling what we have known for nearly a year and a half, that Larian is now almost exclusively focused on everything except BG3 and any further content. This headline crosses a line that exemplifies what people mean when they state gaming journalists have zero integrity. It’s not your inability to drive clicks that is causing your companies to go under. It’s openly lying to the audience and getting caught that has led to far fewer people to even consider clicking bc of the behavior of this writer. If sites like this want to stay open, they need to publicly impose disciplinary actions for behavior like this. And THAT is only step 1. Step 2 calling out studios that even imply reduction of access under any circumstances. Step 3 would be to call out studios offering preferential treatment, such as merch, and those who accept it. Situations like Dragon Age Veilguard, where anyone EA thought might be remotely critical were denied review copies, is completely unacceptable. Just bc others who weren’t critical didn’t receive review copies doesn’t justify that behavior. It costs them nothing to make sure everyone who should have review access has it. Which is made more clear when you had people with no platform tweeting at them that they’re of X identity and that being enough to immediately get them a review copy. They didn’t just want to give review copies to people who were unlikely to be critical, they were only willing to give review copies to people who were ideologically prevented them from being critical.I’ve read so many articles that really had almost nothing to do with the headline and I’m sick of it. I am falling for it less and less. I considering unsubscribing from the newsletter so that I will quit clicking on these clickbait headlines with articles that ultimately say NOTHING! I thought this was a reputable website when I started reading it, but I am starting to think I was just wrong. I like the game reviews, but a lot of the rest is just fluff. Quit paying people to say nothing. You are driving readers away.Tip your clerics.Swen Vincke’s comments at The Game Awards seem to have rustled some feathers.Well, that’s a freebie. There are some fantastic skins in Marvel Rivals Season One.Leave no stone unturned with our complete guide to Indiana Jones And The Great Circle.Launch games are good, but farewell games are better.
