Nintendo sending lawyers? Stranger things have happened…It’s a strange time to be a Nintendo fan and/or accessory manufacturer. It seems like every day now we’re getting news of third party companies announcing new products for a console that Nintendo hasn’t even formally announced yet. One of the highest profile examples of this was from Japanese manufacturer Genki, who showcased some of their upcoming products at CES last week, including mockups of the Switch 2 itself. You might wonder if something like this caught the attention of the notoriously litigious Nintendo. Well, according to French journalist Julien Tellouck, it has. Tellouck was at CES 2025 and apparently heard from one of the employees at Genki’s booth that they had been approached by lawyers representing Nintendo during the show. You can see his account of the events (along with an English translation) below:“I spoke with the guy from Genki, just behind me. He told me that Nintendo had already sent lawyers their way. But Genki has nothing to worry about because they’ve never signed any papers with Nintendo, no confidentiality agreement, no NDA. So, the Japanese brand is in the clear.”Neither Nintendo nor Genki have actually commented on this matter, so right now this is all just secondhand reporting and not something we can officially confirm. Genki did previously state that their Switch 2 mockups were based on speculation, and not anything sent to them by Nintendo themselves. It remains to be seen how accurate those mockups actually are, and whether or not Nintendo will take any kind of legal action against any of these leaks. The weirdest thing about these leaks has been the lack of repercussions. Maybe that’s about to change. Genkidesuka? I don’t think so
