At the Buzzer: Iowa 85, Indiana 60 – Inside the Hall
Quick thoughts on an 85-60 loss at Iowa:It was a game of runs in the first half at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. After Indiana scored the game’s first four points, the Hawkeyes went on a 21-4 run to grab a 21-8 lead at the 13:19 mark. Led by strong bench play, the Hoosiers answered with an 18-2 run to grab a 26-3 lead on an Oumar Ballo dunk with 7:17 to play in the first half. But Iowa outscored Indiana 20-7 the rest of the half to go into the break leading 43-33. Turnovers were a major problem for the Hoosiers in the first half. IU committed 12 and Iowa turned them into 17 points. The Hawkeyes also outscored Indiana 13-2 in fast break points. One IU player – Myles Rice – scored in double figures in the first half. Rice had 11 points in 18 minutes.Iowa opened the second half on a 14-5 run to stretch the lead to 57-38, forcing Mike Woodson to take a timeout before the under-16 media timeout. By the 14:41 mark, the Hawkeye lead grew to 22 points on a 3-pointer by Payton Sandfort. Sandfort made it a 25-point advantage for Iowa with a 3-pointer with 13:17 to play. At the under-eight media timeout, Iowa’s lead was 24 points at 72-48. Iowa’s lead was 28 points at 78-50 by the final media timeout. The embarrassing blowout loss, Indiana’s fourth this season by 16 or more points, snapped a five-game losing streak and dropped the Hoosiers to 13-4 overall and 4-2 in Big Ten play.Oumar Ballo finished with a double-double (10 points, 13 rebounds) and Rice finished with 12 points and five assists.Iowa dominated points off of turnovers (24-to-10) and fast break points (26-to-2).
