Hands On With ASUS’s Next-Gen ROG Astral, Strix, TUF Gaming, PRIME Lineup For NVIDIA RTX 50 GPUs – Wccftech

ASUS came out with a huge array of next-gen GPUs for NVIDIA’s RTX 50 lineup with its ROG Astral, Strix, TUF Gaming & PRIME lineups at CES.ASUS is one graphics card manufacturer that every gamer will have on their list when selecting high-end components. This year, the company is introducing brand-new versions of its existing lineups and also launching a new series called Astral, which is part of its ROG series. While we have covered the RTX 5090 custom models in our roundup here, this post will take a deeper look at the ASUS RTX 50 lineup.ASUS ROG Astral GPUs – The Premium Offerings For RTX 5090 & RTX 5080 GPUsThe ASUS ROG Astral solutions are designed for enthusiast-tier graphics cards such as the NVIDIA RTX 5090 & RTX 5080. These custom variants feature four fans, three on the front and one on the back, offering a 20% improvement in airflow and air pressure over the last-gen ROG STRIX custom models. ASUS states that with this extra cooling, they can reach higher clocks on the Astral lineup.Underneath the hood of the ROG Astral GPUs is a vapor chamber that is connected by eight heat pipes and the heatsink under the fourth fan is denser than the remaining stack to ensure those higher cooling capabilities. ASUS also makes use of Phase-Changer Thermal pads instead of paste, which offers better heat transfer and also lasts longer, so you don’t have to worry about changing the paste on your GPU from time to time. The PCB is also custom-made with 80A MOSFETs which allow 35% more power than standard designs and offer more overclocking potential. When we talked to ASUS, they mentioned that the cards will feature per-pin analytics for the 16-pin (12V-2×6) connectors. This will help users track power spikes within the PSU or per pin.In addition to the air-cooled variant, ASUS also has a liquid-cooled version called the ASUS ROG Astral LC which is offered with the RTX 5090 GPU. This variant features a 360mm radiator and a single fan on the front for a hybrid cooling fashion. The liquid-cooled variant is said to offer 30% better cooling performance than the ROG Astral air-cooled variants.ASUS ROG Strix Gets An Upgrade – Sleeker With Fancy RGBMoving down the stack, we have the ASUS ROG Strix lineup which covers the RTX 5070 and above cards. This version is an upgrade of the existing ROG Strix with a triple-fan and triple-slot design. It will come with a full-coverage backplate with a cut-out on the back for extra airflow to pass through and there’s also the same dual BIOS switch with P-Mode (Performance) and Q-Mode (Quiet) modes. The ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 50 GPUs will come with a very vibrant RGB touch on the front and a large accent LED plate on the slide. Features of this lineup include a vented exoskeleton, Aura Sync RGB, a phase-change thermal pad, protective PCB coating, a Dual BIOS switch, and high-end power delivery while retaining a single 16-pin connector across all models.ASUS TUF Gaming Retains Its Toughened-Up LooksAll NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 GPUs will also be available in ASUS’s TUF Gaming variations and these models will feature the same features but with military-grade components. The RTX 5090 model in particular is going to utilize a vapor chamber design. The graphics card features a very industrial look to it with large cut-outs on the back and sides while retaining the same dual BIOS design. The card uses triple axial fans and has a silver and grey color scheme across the shroud and the backplate.SFF-Compatible PRIME GeForce RTX 50 GPUs Are Ready For Compact PCsAnd last of all, we have the ASUS PRIME series of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 GPUs which will come in RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti, and RTX 5070 flavors. These cards will go with a more compact 2.5-slot lay-out to ensure compatibility with SFF PCs. The main highlights of the PRIME lineup include the use of the same phase change thermal compound, triple-fan cooling solution, and a sleek matte black color scheme across the shroud and the backplate.ASUS hasn’t shared the pricing of these models yet, but the first NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 GPUs are expected to roll out later this month, so stay tuned for more details. Some posts on wccftech.com may contain affiliate links.
