No originals debuted on the overall streaming top 10 chart. Netflix’s “Bridgerton” led that list with 21.42 billion viewing minutes, followed by the streamer’s dating series “Love Is Blind” with 16.45 billion. Rounding out the originals chart are “The Boys,” “The Lincoln Lawyer,” “Fallout,” “Futurama,” “Fool Me Once,” “Evil,” “Gabby’s Dollhouse” and “Reacher.”
Amazon Prime Video’s “Fallout” was the most-streamed new original drama series of 2024, with 11.95 billion viewing minutes. Netflix’s “Fool Me Once” was a close second, with 10.89 billion. In terms of new comedy series, Netflix’s “Nobody Wants This” took the top slot with 4.90 billion minutes viewed, followed by the Ted Danson-led “A Man on the Inside,” with 2.94 billion.
Netflix also earned the top two new original unscripted/documentary titles, “American Nightmare” (3.57 billion) and “Unlocked: A Jail Experiment” (2.50 billion). Hulu’s “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” notched 2.14 billion viewing minutes, and MrBeast’s Prime Video competition series “Beast Games” nabbed 700 million minutes of viewing in 2024 despite a late-December release date.
On the film side, animation reigned supreme, with nine out of the top 10 most-streamed movies. Disney’s 2016 hit “Moana” was No. 1, with 13.03 billion minutes viewed, followed by “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which scored 11.72 billion viewing minutes on Netflix. Rounding out the chart: “Red One,” “Trolls Band Together,” “Minions,” “Encanto,” “Frozen,” “Paw Patrol: The Movie,” “Inside Out” and “Boss Baby.”
Nielsen also pointed out two legacy series that performed well on streaming in 2024: “Little House on the Prairie” (13.25 billion minutes viewed on Peacock) and “Gunsmoke” (10.23 billion on Peacock and Paramount+). Both series had strong viewership from Black audiences and an older demographic.
